Think need new clutch

Featured Replies

As title states.

In 5th gear driving on motorway and put foot down and revs span up very quickly. So thinking clutch is on it's way. TBH think it has been going some time not because it slips but the bite is now very high.

So what is the best kit.

Looking at these kits:

thinking maybe th 14lbs flywheel or even 20lbs as the 14lbs lightweight one I seem to remember does give a little more gearbox rattle/noise

Any other options out there folks.

VR6/G60 combo seem popular. How is the bite on those compared with std.

Vr6 g60 conversion buddy the only way feels stock and works a treat and cost less than 200 ;-)

As Clive said, I'd go for the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch kit. I've had mine on for almost 2 years now, and it's never slipped or caused any problems. Fit and forget. Launching hard off the line properly is so much easier without the DMF!

I bought the following parts from Skoda:

VW G60 flywheel - 028105269BX

6 x Flywheel bolts - N90206103

6 x Coverplate bolts - N10101001

Then from GSF I got:

VW VR6 (LUK) clutch kit (coverplate/friction disc/release bearing) - 021198141A

All those parts totalled £178 for me. That's after I got the flywheel surcharge (£30) back off Skoda, and after getting a decent discount. Not bad for OEM parts!

The standard G60 flywheel weighs in at 20.8lbs, and the LUK DMF that came off my car weighed 22.3lbs.

Here's my old thread if it's of any use: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/150787-clutchflywheel-review/page__p__1877641__fromsearch__1#entry1877641

The labour was the expensive bit for me!

one of 3 things if it failed:

either

1. Manufacturing fault (unlikely)

2. Installation/fitting fault (more likely)

3. Not bedded in correctly/clutch abuse (only owner will know)

That was my kit that failed, it appears that I was supplied the wrong plate as its too thin and not applying enough pressure :-(

Don't think it's on it's way, it's gone!

Are you going to be replacing this yourself?

He does everything himself ;-)

Excellent info buddy, cheers. Will start pricing this lot up then as I can sometimes get trade deals at TPS

That is good to know and now rules out the only negative thread I have seen ref tht kit/clutch going early

Ha Ha yep agree , that the torque from my map has caught up with the clutch... :giggle:

He does everything himself ;-)

Only way to go buddy else how do you learn right.....you know me too well.

mine is doing the same mate.

on the IP map it starts slipping ate 3.2k (max torque) and with my RS Tuning map its up more 4-4.5k.

not fun when overtaking lol.

mine is funny tho as it has started to behave? the bit is a bit spongy but low down the pedal? I was going to get the new clutch too but its not that undriveable yet and tbh Ive spent too much on her really. Would prob of been spot on it Id just left my std clutch on there that has shed loads of meat left. even after 91k miles. I rubbed out the carbon from the grooves in the plate and they are still really deep lol. DOH

tip dont fix whats not broke!

good luck mate.

Billy

edit: I have blead the clutch too using the eezebleed. One think I noticed tho was the fluid had black dust in it? then ran new

Do it, best thing i did, the added bonus is you can sit in traffic without your left knee beginning to hurt

I do DIY when I can. If you want a hand let me know, haven't got my hands dirty in a while.
