Felicia 1.6 oil leak

Featured Replies

Hi, new to this forum, and hoping for some advice.

My son, who is about as mechanically minded as a clueless thing, drives a Felicia 1.6 GLXi which has developed an oil leak which looks as if the sump has rusted through at the front. Anybody know if this is likely? and if so do polo sumps fit as these are easier to find?

Thanks in anticipation!

Is the sump made of steel, perhaps get it welded-up?

Even alloy can be welded by a professional.

Possible repair with some epoxy bond could be carried-out with removal of sump to access inside of sump?

Good luck.

It is possible for them to rust through, they're just steel.

You could repair it - any competent welder should be able to do it, although I'd take it off the car first as I wouldn't fancy an oil fire (not guaranteed, but possible and a bit difficult to deal with). Any sump from the same engine code could be an option, you'd need to check in case some used different shape sumps (not sure if that happened or not; I'd expect them to have changed the engine code if it did).

I'm not convinced by the idea of patching a pressed tin sump by welding, because sumps tend to be oily!

Oh and yes, I have had a pressed tin sump "go porous" due to rust.

So it is made of steel, then I should imagine a new sump would not cost a fortune to replace, from 'SKODA'emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Thanks for all suggestions - got a new one from Euro Car parts - they are doing 25% discount for 0n-line parts sales at the moment.
