Do I need a new turbo?

Featured Replies

My PD130 has done about 160k, I've had the car about a year now and has always done it. It leaks oil a tiny bit (turbo and pipes oily), but the main concern is that there is a constant rubbing/air escaping kind of noise on acceleration. It just sounds a little rough. As well as this it returns poor mpg (about 33mpg around town) and I think it's lacking power a bit, especially noticeable when cold!

Now I am going to try the mr muscle cleaning thing. But does it sound like the turbo needs replacing?

Sounds more like a boost leak if you ask me.

Check over all of the pipes and the connections from the EGR all the way down to the intercooler and back again. 50p is on the joint at the intercooler being busted.

I was thinking this too. I have only had a quick check of the pipes. I need to replace my intercooler due to the mounts breaking so will check both connections and also test the replacement intercooler when I do. Do you think I will be able to hear anything if I get underneath and get someone to rev it a little bit?

Also, is there anyway to make the rubbish vag connectors (that wear down) any better?

Also, on a side note, the noise that I have described seems to be coming through on the passenger side of the cabin. Any reason for this?

I have the same noise lol

It's all about the money!

I'd say that you'd do well to change the oil feed pipes to the turbo and check all the boost pipework.
