SKODA BADGE - A laughing stock!

Featured Replies

Tell them to grow up... the old Skoda sneers are so way out of touch that they aren't worth a second thought... I am not going to be "brandist" in return about Hondas ... Skoda is a long established distinguished company, their cars during the "bad" years were no worse that most others ( where to start... Allegros Marinas Avengers were all tin crap and at least Skodas were cheap !!!! ). I chose to go back to driving a Skoda after a Merc which was an over priced unreliable bloated barge... the Skoda is well made, honest and a darned sight nicer to drive :-)

Every one at work keeps telling me i'm sad for buying a SKODA - Apparently you can buy a Civic type R for less money which has far better performance and is seen as a 'REAL' drivers car. i am seriously considering changing it now due to the amount of grief i am getting - i dont have any come back because i suppose they are right... arnt they?

Pull yourself together.... what is "real" about a Civic Type R.... no they aren't right at all and I don't suppose half of them would benefit from the "real" driverness of the thing anyway....

This has been submitted by a colleague (Honda Type-R owner) who thought he'd have a laugh as I forgot to log out last night. So dont worry i've still got a pair & i'll get him back. I'm not concerned, he's looking at getting a Kia :giggle: - enuf said! B)

I am more than happy with my car. No way i'll be changing this anytime soon.

Some utter dross spoken about Honda's in this thread, I though Skoda owners might be a bit more savvy. :S Honda make nice cars as do Skoda. Skoda does have a stigma attached despite being good cars(in recent history) but these days its pretty much just ignorance that causes people to abuse them. Personally I dont give a toss about other peoples ignorant views. :)

Honda never had the best reputation in the early days either, I used to work at a Honda dealer in the days of the Mk1 Civic, TN7's many many years ago. Honda shed a load of dealers that would not invest in posh showrooms etc in a major effort to take the brand up market and away from it's rustbucket (which they where), motorcycle manufacturer playing at making cars image. They succeeded but it took a few years.

I bought a Gen 3 Prius and was the subject of jokes and ridicule, but could not give a stuff about opinions on the car, some of them outright hostile btw. let others wallow in their ignorance :-) but surley, this is a wind up thread?

CTR's are slow unless you are 100% on it!

Even then they won't lose a well driven Octy :)

Even though the original post turned out to be garbage, let's not forget this is a one make forum and everyone is going to big-up Skoda. Howevee the fact that many people have come from Type Rs to VRS' adds some weight to the argument.

As mentioned, myself and many others are not saying they are not good to drive but it seems we all prefer our VRS' and we wouldn't be here otherwise.

On a side note, I expect all the people who love VTEC and life in 9k rpm will soon become forced induction converts as soon as the turbo charged R's come out. Until then n/a will be the only way to go for some...

vRS appears to be slower to 60 and slower to 100 and doubt the handling is as good. :)

Shame this is a wind-up. I'd have happily taken the vRS off your hands :D

What a saddo you are, I met a guy on holiday who was changing his Audi, he and his wife asked if he could have a look at my 2010 2.0 Black Magic elegance estate, took them for a drive and said his next car would be a Skoda, impressed with build quality and price ,the day of the Skoda jokes are long gone my friend.

Unfortunately, Honda ditched their fine rear multilink setup on the EP3 type r (2001-2005) in favour of a cheaper and less sophisticated torsion beam set up on the FN2 (2007-2010), so I wouldn't be too sure about the handling being better on the latter model anyway.....

Yeah I did smell a rat :)

And a Kia? Seriously? And he's ribbing Skoda owners?

Yes indeed, I think they really "Mork'd" the rear suspension on the later models. I remember Top Gear testing them both and I think, but may be wrong, that the old CTR beat the new one around the TG track.

They did but it doesn't really make a huge amount of difference, I would put the house on a CTR handling better than a Octavia vRS. The last championship white Mugen versions also had an LSD which makes them substantially better too. Not dissing the Octy just dont think its as quick flat out as a CTR. :)

And that's also to do with them adding weight to the FN2, but leaving the engine output the same emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Not if its been remapped............

Modded is a silly argument, what if the CTR has a supercharger. :D

Modded is a silly argument, what if the CTR has a supercharger. :D

Fair point! (even though a remap costs a few hundred quid compared to a SC conversion????)

But if modding is off limits then we could discuss comfort, build quality, luggage space, practicality......blah, blah, blah!

Shouldn't that be m0rk'd????
