why are you even slightly concerned about what OTHER people think ?

dont we buy cars that WE like so that WE can drive them and WE can enjoy them ???

Grow a spine.

Oh dear.....

I had an EP3 Type R and loved it. Completely different driving experience to my Octy. However, the VRS puts a smile on my face and is an extremely capable car. Also very practical for family life.

I think your work colleagues need to educate themselves

Dude, grow a pair. Your considering changing your brand new car and taking a huge financial hit because some probably jealous people are ribbing you. I take it they "drive" hondas ?

Sounds to me like their manhoods are feeling a little shorter since you cruised up in the Skud !

Every one at work keeps telling me i'm sad for buying a SKODA - Apparently you can buy a Civic type R for less money which has far better performance and is seen as a 'REAL' drivers car. i am seriously considering changing it now due to the amount of grief i am getting - i dont have any come back because i suppose they are right... arnt they?

:D

I'll echo what everyone else here has said. I've done the Honda thing and owned some of the best type Rs, but I wouldn't buy another now. The last shape (FN2) CTR is compromised to keep the price down. The suspension setup is average at best, the suspension is very firm, it has little low down power so all the progress is made up high when VTEC kicks in which is reality isn't always something you can exploit. They are enjoyable don't get me wrong, but the VRS or other similar 2.0T is a better drive thanks to the low down torque. The setup is good out of the box and a couple of very minor mods really elevates the car further.

I don't for one minute consider what others think of my car, as a bonified car enthusiast I know I made the right choice and it's a great car for the money (& just about every generic car mag/website will back you up).

I note the car you drive is an 11 plate CR, the CTRs would be cheaper as they stopped making them a short while ago, and they don't do a fast sporty CTR (or equivalent) diesel.

Read the reliability surveys and the Honest John report on what goes wrong. A colleague had a new Civic and the tales of things going wrong became ever most fantastical to me.

Ugliest car on the market as far as I'm concerned.

If you'd bought a Honda they'd probably be telling you now "Hondas are for OAPs"

Don't listen to them, I imagine they're just jealous that you've got something way better than they have.

You made a good choice - don't let ignorant bigots tell you otherwise.

So, they all own and drive type R's and have driven a vRS then? And have a valued, informed opinion?

Na... Thought not! Just jealous you have a fantastic new car! Surely you bought a car you like? Yes? Well then what's it matter what "everyone at work" thinks!

Tell 'em to blow it up their own tail pipe!

Just agree with them enthusiastically & carry on ploughing your own furrow.

This is the exact opposite of what I have found.

When I got my first Octavia I was expecting the jokes and sneers but got the absolute opposite! The angle most folk came from was that they knew that Skodas had cast off the old image and now were well built, well specced, value-for-money cars but they didn't have the guts to actually buy one.

I have owned a type r and other fast Hondas and as good as they were, my current vRS is streets ahead in every department. I consider myself fortunate that I can overlook the badge snobbery issue and know that I am driving the best car under £20k.

Has to be a wind up, nobody is this weak minded, are they?

please change ur mind and don't come back if its making u sad having bought a skoda!!

seriously.....

Your mates must assume they'd knock the stuffing out of a vRS in a CTR. I suspect the drivers of these would say otherwise...

Just Smile & ask where do Honda come in the JD power surveys, & if they are that good, why dont the police have them ? ?

One of my neighbours has an old shape CTR, & has been trying to sell it for ages, as he cant afford the fuel & insurance bills.

I got a brand new type r on a 58 plate when they first came out

what a pile of junk  rattles......rattles,,,,,,poor fuel ie 20 m.p.g and wheel spin ......rubish seats what dont go back to position totally crap.....

only get the power band after 5,800 rpm and the noise goes through your ears......every thing felt abit cheap

best thing was the red starter button :giggle:

WFT? Are they for real?

First off, the Type R civic is tiny, its more expensive, has worse emissions then both a petrol and diesel vrs which is a significant factor for company car drivers, but most importantly it has absolutely no torque!

I've had fast hondas in the past and i wouldnt' have one again - sure a 9,000rpm red line can be fun, but low down torque is what makes a car fast in the real world.

Oh, just to mention, I do also currently own a honda, it does a great job keeping my grass in check.

I looked to buy a Civic Type R and chose the Octy vRS instead. 'Nuff said.
