Injectors Sounding Different!?

Featured Replies

I'm one of those people that like to overexamine things with the engine or other parts of the car.

When I did a little engine-trekkin' today I noticed that the camshafts sounded a little louder. The 'ticking' sounds sounded louder.

The other day it didn't sound THAT high, more normal sound.

The only difference between "the other day" and today was the weather.

The other day it was raining and the temp was around 15C, today it was sunny and 25C.

Could it be the temperature difference or?

Cheers,

FD

Are you sure that it isn't the injectors you can hear? Can't say I have ever noticed camshaft noise as such.

You're probably right Denis, I just noticed they ticked a little louder today then the other day.

No clue to why though.

i was talking this over with ian - my injectors are really noisy... reckon its the induction kit on mine?

Anyone got a weblink or something to watch the specs on the 1.8T AUQ-engine injectors?

Maybe what you are hearing are the hydraulic cam lifter. A friend that have a Audi 1.8T use to have the same noise and he change his oil to 0W-30 synthetic and the problem goes away.

What viscosity oil you are using? Maybe when is colder your oil is more thicker and does not flow ok.

Hi Isaac,

I use the Skoda dealer's oil that comes with variable service interval.

I checked my oil and it seems to be just fine, so I don't think it could be the oil.

It may be the black carbon box ticking away next to off side wing behind power steering res.

Des, what does the box do?

I don't really know, it's some sort of filter.

The rate of ticking does vary a lot, and sometimes disappears.

I did some 'listening' to my engine today and I can tell that it's not the black box, it's like DGW said, the injectors that makes the 'ticking' sounds (sounds like a whole bunch of old watches ticking :D).

Today they sounded more normal, I don't have a clue to why they sound different at different times but they're supposed to do that. Otherwise something would be really wrong.

The only thing I can refer to is that my car is Revo'd with 4bar FPR software, so the fueling is slightly different from the original 3bar FPR 'stock' software.

recirculates the petrol vapours back into the fuel tank.

Good explanation, big k. But assuming tha Skoda don't actually describe it as a black carbon box in ETKA, what is its real name? thinks.gif

is this the box that rs turbo boys all have replaced with a little chrome tank?
