A few questions

Featured Replies

well

i have now settled in with my new vrs octy cr170 but i have a couple of questions.

the head light bulbs are crap and produce no where near the level of road light iam used to from my old car (car was not xenon either), i have seen these bulbs are they any good ?

http://www.powerbulbs.com/product/philips-blue-vision-ultra-h7-499-hid-car-headlight-bulbs

is there any other bulbs that would produce more of a white light on the road, and give a blue effect to other road users ?

what range should i be getting from my fuel tank ? i fill up and it says everytime around 550 miles ( i fill up 2 or 3 times a week)

but i only seem to get around 470 per tank, is that ok ? i do a fair amound of motorway miles but quite a few city miles also.

i have had the door locks coded via vcds local dealer to unlock with one pip, is there any other worthwile bits of coding via vcds that would be of benefit ?

all in all after two weeks and 1700 miles later its such a cracking car its unreal, every time i drive it its enjoyable.

thanks in advance

The fuel consumption will be a tad low at the moment as the engine is still brand new and tight. When it loosens up a bit & wears in, you'll find that the fuel consumption will get better & better. So be patient. :)

Don't you have Maxidot? That will allow you to tweak quite a lot of values.

There are numerous changes than can be made with VCDS some of this will depend what spec the car has though, maxidot, xenon's (obviously not though) etc, such as:

large digital MPH speed

cornering lights

CH /LH lights

fog lights as CH / LH lights (for xenon equipped cars)

selective door locking

alarm chirps

anti hi-jack (doors lock automatically when you drive off

mpg calibration

telephone connects silently

towbar correctly coded

comfort indicators changed from 3 - 5

SOME of these can be done through the maxidot where fitted - providing they have been activated.

Oh pleeease!!

Headlights are to see with, not a fashion accessory.

Philips replacement bulbs are very good and will give you a brighter, white light whilst still being legal, don't get confused with the name 'bluevision' they may have a blue coating on the bulb but this is to produce a whiter light.

Do you have maxidot? you can program many things through that.

With vcds they should be able to activate second rear fog light and cornering fog lights etc.

Sounds like someone should have done some research before ordering (unless it is an ex demo?) and specced Maxi dot and Xenon's! :giggle:

no maxi dot, and its a co car not my own, if it was my own car i would of invested in the extra's.

so the philips bulbs are a good choice then ? value for money ?

Thanks very much for the info. :)

I can get 500ish on the motorway, but that's steady driving. Regular 450 and a bit with normal driving, but this drops along with my right foot :giggle:

I found my xenons very good after my astra, even when I put better bulbs in the astra.

Would some knowledgeable member please confirm that this correct on a FL

I tend to fill up at 600 miles pretty much every tank. Longest I've gone between fill ups was 650 but that was nearly all motorway miles. That said, mine's a PD170 not a CR and it's got a good few miles on.

I rarely got 400 miles out of a tank on my CR so the reduced performance over the petrol vrs wasn't really worth it for me.

Mines 8 months old and i get about 500 miles stop start driving with a wee bit of motorway thrown in...and yes the standard bulbs are appaling and mine will be getting changed very soon...

Difficult to see how you can get cornering foglights on a new VRS...I thought they relied on an extra bulb in the foglights on non-VRS models, those foglights being totally different from the projector type fitted to the VRS?

No, hence the name cornering fog lights :giggle:

They just use the fog light bulb....have activated it on mine and it works....then promptly de-activated it as it is totally pointless!

thanks for the info on the fuel, i guess 470 is not to bad for the mo then ? iam sure if i did a whole tank on just motorways i would get much more.

i did ask the dealer about the fogs he said they can activate them but it should of been done by the factory but they can do it for a charge if it has not been done yet.

one more question regarding side lights, the car has the day running led lights, when i select the side lights the front led's reduce in brightness and the rear lights come on but that is it ? shouldn't the small bulbs at the top of the head lights come on when the side lights are selected ? or do the LED's just do the whole job at the front ? i hope that makes sense ?

The standard W5W sidelight bulb is redundant on the vRS. It isn't even wired up, the bulb is in there as it is simply the same headlight used on other Octavia specifications.

As you've noticed the LED DRL's double up as sidelights by dimming when you select sidelights or dipped headlights

Silly question coming up what does VCDS stand for.

Thanks very much.

Ref the fuel distances etc i have done a full tank on mostly motorways since Monday evening and got 54.7mpg average and just over 530 miles so far and the tank still has just under 1/4 left so on a long journey the mpg is good, my speed was around 75 with the odd extra burst when someone got on my nerves lol
