Octavia wheel alignment update

Featured Replies

Hi everyone ,

Today i was presented at work a update for rear geometry by a skoda main dealer plus a octavia vrs to align

they always bring them to us at Feltham tyres as we have the latest hunter systems for wheel alignment the Hawkeye.

Anyway what it says is models 2UA 2UC & 2UB chassis set rear geometry to

CAMBER -50' -10' (max -1 DEGREE) or on RS chassis -1 DEGREE 15' -5' (max -1 degree 20')

TOTAL TOE IN +10' -2'

TOE IN DIVIDED LEFT +5'

TOE IN DIVIDED RIGHT +5'

this should eliminate saw tooth type wear on inner rear tyres (mainly found on 225/45R17 tyres especially bridgestones and stop the wheel bearing style noise over 30 mph which these good cars are hindered by.

Hope this helps you fellow skoda owners

bye for now i'm back off to the yeti forum

good luck

Peter

Thanks for the update, I must take note of these

Do those figures also apply to the 4X4 model?

Check your model code against the above its on the paper label in your boot and if i remember the bootom line on the right hand side is your model code letters

Peter

You are right, Peter. 2UB is the final optional equipment code listed for my 4X4. It decodes as Rough Road Design.

These seem a bit different to the previous recommended settings, copied below. I had mine done to these settings below and although it's made the ride a little "crashy" at the back, after 20,000 miles the uneven tyre wear and sawtoothing has not returned.

Camber1°20’ ± 0°30’ (Theseare the revised settings)

Toe 0°05’ ± 0°05’

Total Toe 0°10’ ± 0°10’

Thrust angle 0°00’ ± 0°20’<br style="mso-special-character: line-break;"><br style="mso-special-character: line-break;">

One thing you all forgeting. Those are guideline only. Each vechicle should be treated indivudual depend on tyres, driving styles, roads and purpose you use your car for. On top of that most of Skoda (if not all) models wont have camber adjustment so trying to get to those specs is useless. If you will find different camber then you should look for different toe spec as well. If you want to do it right - find someone who will understand alignment/geometry and not just do it to spec. Otherwise you waste your time and money.

The yeti & octavia 2 do have rear toe / camber adjustment even though it's awkward on the octi and as long as the equipment is up to spec and the garage know what they are doing there is every chance of attaining the recommended range of settings specified by skoda

Try adjusting it without bending the razor blade heat shields out of the way on the vrs and keeping your fingers slice free !

Pete

Ive done it few times with long snap-on spanners. But I know what you mean. Its a job for alignment shop to do.

So just crunching the numbers above. They come out to roughly 0-2mm total toe in the rear. I paid for a wheel alignment yesterday and was disgusted afterwards to find out the figures they used were from 2005.

Does anyone have the complete set of figures from the 2011 update? A whole alignment sheet would be ideal.

As long as you're going somewhere with Hunter (or similar) equipment then they will be using the latest settings despite what it may say on your print-out. Hunter equipment is regularly updated online so the latest figures are there.

I recently had a full alignment done on my Octy. Print-out also says "2005" however I know for a fact that the data being used is a lot more up to date than that.

Have a look at this thread.

I forgot to mention I have spoken to the poster of the thread on pm and he said that the tracking was spot on and no wear to the rear tyres and this is running the car for over a year on those settings.

Thanks Guys.

I don't know what brand machines are used here, but there are a couple of key differences.

First is finding a tech who actually cares enough to do their job properly, I've had two bad experiences in the past.

Second they measure toe here in mm's rather than degrees, so I have some conversion to do.

The sheet I have shows the allowable range of toe-in at the front and rear to be 0-4.2mm. This equates to a range of roughly 0-23 minutes total toe. I notice the VRS in that link is being set to 8 minutes front and 14 minutes rear where my scout is now similar but running a bit more toe on the front than rear.

My rear camber is showing 1 deg, 24m and 1deg 37m, the range on the sheet is -1d50m to -50m.

So in a nutshell, my numbers are where they should be, but it appears to be by good luck rather than good management. My overall experience at that shop was bad from the moment I arrived at the agreed time to be told I was too late and it wouldn't be done because it took a full hour and they were closing in half an hour. However the man on the phone when I booked and the sign on the door both said they closed later than the man at the desk. They had the car for 19 minutes including a road test and charged me more than I've ever paid for a wheel alignment.
