Car just FLEW through its MOT

Featured Replies

Well pleased! :woohoo:

Car failed nothing this time on its MOT. Only got a couple of advisories on the state of the brakes (hence my recent enquiry into black diamond). I asked about the exhaust emissions too and got the reply.

"It was WELL within the tolerances" ;)

Another year of happy "my car is all good" motoring. :)

Knew it would!!! Just out of interest did you get a printout with your emissions results on?

Chris

blimey,

Just glanced at the title and thought you'd done something....again. ;)

Good news on the emissions front......hoping mine will sail through later this year. :D

Yes I did, but its in the car now. When I get home tonight I'll be filing it away so will take a glance and mention it then.

I was expecting something along the lines of "he went to test the brakes and.... whooops!" ;)

Strange how those two words go together isn't it Jason and .......what was the other one .........flying

:P Here's a litle ditty off my emissions test - Its full of jargon so I've taken a random sample...

FREE ACCELERATIONS

Accel.1

Opacity 0.55 [m-1]

This I believe is my emissions test, but with a cat (last years test) I got results of 0.17, 0.12 & 0.11 on 3 diferent tests, so you could say its putting out a little more emissions. ;) Would seem the cat basically sucks out 3/4 of the cr4p it chucks out. :)

Also spotted an advisory that my front bushes (to the rear of tyre) both have splits in them, so will be looking at new bushes too. Is there a good aftermarket place I can bushes from, or would anyone suggest sticking to OEM? :D

Jason, if you have plenty of dosh, you could go for a set of Powerflex bushes. IIRC they are made of polythene and tighten things up a bit...

Good news eh! My Octy had its first MOT last Friday and no probs either. I did query whether my front tryes would pass, having done 20K+ miles + 2 track days, but all fine and dandy........

Apparently, I think a car can pass an MOT without any wheels attached at all... Bit of a weird rule - like you don't need a windscreen fitted either. :D

Powerflex bushes sound nice... also sound expensive :(

Might see what the supplier I get my black diamond discs from, can get me, bushes related.

:smrbow: :huep: :cool2:

Not a single thing wrong!!!!!!

Emissions as follows:

Sump oil Temp 84'C K @ Run 1 = 0.35

K @ Run 2 = 0.54

K @ Run 3 = 0.91

Gas Temp = 16'C

I have NO idea what the above means but I don't care :rofl:

The car in front of me was a Trafpol Volvo T5 Estate (Y Reg) so took the chance to have a sneaky peek under the bonnet but couldn't see anything obvious.

Asked the tester if it was tweaked at all and he just winked and said "You don't seriously expect it to be standard do you?"

"So you're not going to tell me what the mods are then?" I asked

He politely nodded and winked and gave a big cheesy :D

He also confirmed he'd happily pass my car if it had the cat taken off and he reckoned it could make "quite a difference to the power" due to the back pressure created by a cat on a diesel.................guess what my next mod is?????

I had to read for exactly the same reason.

Hmmm, bolt some wings under her, get a quick tow... lovely.... ;)

As for the wheels thing I remembered the true fact - Its that you can bolt any old wheels to your car with good tyres, etc, get home after passing the MOT and rebolt on your potentially worn out / damaged wheels + tyres and do 12 months driving.

Of course, how does your car get to the MOT station without wheels? :o
