Again has anyone got any evidence to show the ebay cooler is really that much worse that the forge/pro alloy one?

I'd like to know this too, I think it's just a rumour tbh, I've not seen any actual subjective or back to back comparisons..

£714 on the Forge website... I emailed them a while back and they offered me about £650.... 👎

mountie66 had one fitted and had it on the rollers at R-tech they found the standard SMIC was superior

Hence my previous comments! Forge's may have better flow/pressure/whatever, but will most people who'll have this, an exhaust, intake and a remap notice the difference? I suspect not!

You know what....you pays your money and makes your choice

don`t slate without proof

Forge are a very large tuning company with ALOT of background and extreamly good relations because they do their research

So it is very easy to say , save your money and buy a cheap one , but have yu ever thought of how the money has been spent?

My fella worked for Forge for a while , I have been told about the stuff they have wasted doing tests on items , and the hundreds of hours wasted trying different ways in which they have tried to mount items etc....

So is it right to make a tenner on a £200 item??????

Cone on........

To be honest id pay £450-£500 at a stretch but not the £650 I was quoted...

Those who have got good deals did you ring Forge Motorsport Uk and talk to sales...

If do I'll give that a go....

As I've said, I've had this discussion on here with Forge themselves, and while I appreciate the effort/time/money that's gone into things, the simple fact is that many many people are happy with an expensive Forge kit, the same as many many people (even on this forum) are very happy with the kit they've built themselves from parts! My question. is if the end product is the same, how can Forge (and others) justify the extra expense?

The save the bother I'll answer my own question: scene tax ;)

If I could get a Forge kit for £300-350 I'd gladly pay the extra over a self-build kit to guarantee the fitment without faffing around. However, at their retail price, I'd rather pocket the £500 and spend a Sunday on my drive fitting a self-build kit. And get a remap. And some cake.

Than an eBay kit or Forge?

and spend a Sunday on my drive fitting a self-build kit.

spend every sunday on your drive fixing a boost leak

Anyone fancy selling me a decent intercooler? :giggle:

Speculation or experience?

Than an eBay one. The Forge and pro-alloy ones are the dogs. The ebay ones are junk. People will tell you the ebay ones they have fitted are fine because they don't want to admit they should have bought a better one :giggle:

Well, that's one person!

I'm willing to be proved wrong - but all I can go off is what people have posted!

:)

Does anybody have some real world intake temp figures running a cheap cooler and stage 2 boost?

Speculation or experience?

as i said earlier in the thread, the kit is actually quite good, i fitted one to a bora 1.8T (so its the same kit as the octavia) had to trim the bumper and front panels a little but it does go together ok, it is the shoddy hoses and pipework that let the whole bundle down, my friend came back to me 3 times with random boost leaks till i decided to pull the lot out and get all the pipe joints tig welded by a fella near me, at the same time i got him to weld on some tags with bolt holes so the pipes could be secured to the body in various locations. apart from my time being free to a mate the whole thing actually works quite well. he only has a revo chip and one of those forge diverter valve things and ive not seen any rr plots from it but the car does drive better on really hot days, wouldnt like to comment on what its like during normal day to day use because ive only driven the car a few times.

edit: i'm away at the moment but i should have some pictures of the install somewhere on my mac at home

Ok, so pipework can be had from other places (Samco, SFS etc), so that combined with the eBay intercooler would be good?

yeah i guess so, although the pipe work in that kit is already bent to the correct shapes to use...

with the intercooler i've used on my felicia, the actuall cooler itself was £55, and i've just used a mixture of oem parts and purchased a few elbows etc.. i've spent less than £100 on pipework in total, theres also a company near me that make industrial hoses and pipes etc for aircon/plant equimpent/hydraulic etc and they've got a mandrel bender for making bespoke ducting for intercoolers.. now i know the shape of the required pipes they could all be made from a single length of ally tubing cut and bent to shape

To be honest, that's all the information I would need :)

If it's good enough for TefltonTom it's good enough for me!

i'm by no means an 'expert' on intercooling, but i probably know more about it than most people on here. alas i dont always get stuff right first time :giggle: oh and i've broken more stuff than i've fixed :wonder:

Speak to Shark or R-tech or Unit 18 and ask them, see what their responses to the eBay cooler are

If you feel the need to go for one then by all means, you can get it on the rollers on a hot day and find out for yourself

I've never had a boost leak :)

Still need to get mine on a dyno.

I wanted to do before and after runs but had so many fitment issues that that idea went away :)
