Yeti "61" or Price Increase?

Featured Replies

I have a choice - order a 1.2 Tsi DSG Yeti this year and get likely 61 plates - S(UK) delivery promise is early February even if I order late December - or wait till January and get 12 plates but pay the price increase, unknown but I guess, what, 3-5%??

What to do?

I am not sure if price would increase unless your dealer has told you so.

Personally I would pay less rather than wait for a new plate, and use the money to get accessories etc.

Order for February and get the dealer to hold the car until the 1st March for a 12 plate.

They held our Yeti for three weeks. The 14 day period some talk about seems to be advisory.

Dealer is adamant, I take delivery 10 days from delivery to them or they pay new price to Skoda UK so have to charge me the "new" price. So still unsure!

Sounds a bit rum? If you pay for it and they pay Skoda but hold back registering until the new plate all would be well. I suspect they are looking at their targets or monthly/annual bonus payments. Ask them and check some other dealers If they are open with you and give an explanation which satisfies you fine-they have to make a living and you should have no problem with that. People who sell cars do so to make money and that is fine. People who tell you the manufacturer is preventing them from doing a deal that suits you and leads to the manufacturer getting the price they expect are not being transparent.

So, offer to pay them within 10 days of the car being physically in stock but ask them to hold back registration for the new plate.

This is the same as last year when Skoda UK agreed to hold a price if the car was ordered by a certain date (in that case holding 17.5% VAT and not charging the current 20% rate). Clearly SUK want to prevent dealers buying large quantities of cars at the lower rate/price and then flogging to customers at the higher rate and thus inflation their margins at SUK expense. So SUK want to make sure the cars are going to legitimate punters.

I think you'll find that it's the car registration point that SUK use as the 'sale' point for their 'deal' to hold true - for the reason I mention above, to stop dealers buying in lots of 'cheaper' cars and flogging on with the extra margin at SUK expense.

That is exactly what the dealer has told me. The registration date is the "point of sale" for the deal; they have 10 days from delivery to them to registration to a customer to hold the price. After that time they pay the higher price.

Allowing for all that the gamble is whether a Yeti ordered at end of December 2011 can physically be processed, planned, built and delivered to UK dealer on/before Feb 18th 2012.

Anyone know how long transit time is from factory to delivery to UK dealer? Knowing that would better able me to decide whether to gamble on December order hoping for post Feb 18th delivery, which would give me 12 plates.

Also anyone any idea what the likely price increase will be? What do they base their increases on?

I ordered my Yeti on 6th May this year; paid £1000 deposit and the latest estimate of delivery is March 2012!! Will I have to pay any price increase? I was told that they could not guarantee the price quoted to me. Also does anyone know of any enhancements due in the next few months? I have seen online the new brouchure (Nov 11). The folding mirrors is one.

I've always paid what was signed for on the order form. If it takes Skoda a long time to deliver the car and the price has gone up it's tough on them really. The two dealers I've used have never said they can't guarantee the price. You order and pay a deposit. Doesn't sound like a dealer I'd use.

Not sure why yours is taking so long, unless it's an unusual model.

Currently some come though quickly, but 1.2 petrols seem to be about 4 months and diesels 6 months.

Folding mirrors was added earlier in the year I believe, around June.

Looking at the brochure I've not seen any new things. Something I am also curious about as I have two Elegance Yetis coming in Feb/March to be regestered on "12" plates.

Impossible to say at the moment. Can only make an educated guess.

But I'd expect about 2% to 3% like last year as RPIX and CPI have been up around the 4% to 5% mark.

That would be around £400 to £600 on the average Yeti sold. But as I said... bit of a guess.

At least there is no VAT rise this year on top of the list price rises! :)

Why the fuss about a 12 registration when after another 6 months that will be 'old'. I bought my '59' ex demo on 25th Feb 2010 (new reg for just 3 days!) and it doesn't bother me in the slightest, either then or now.

I'd definitely order now and avoid a possible price rise. The bottom line would be, what will the difference in value be when you eventually sell the Yeti and I suspect that there would be little difference between a Jan 2012 on a 61 to a March 2012 on a 12. If the 61 had some popular accessories that could mitigate any age/value difference to a 12.

Because although it'll only be a month newer, the 12 plate will be worth more come resale time.

Not much admittedly, but possibly enough to justify the wait and extra cost?

And as a bonus it's a "new" car for 6 months, which matters to some people.

Change dealers!

My car is likely to arrive in January but the dealer has agreed with Skoda that it won't be registered until 1st March. So it would appear it can be done.
