I always thought the 130 with 6 speed was better on fuel than the old 5 speed 110? I regularly get well over 60mpg on my normal driving route to work and back (52 miles round trip including two town centres and a dual carrage way) and on a trip over the weekend I did 59.6mpg on the motorway cruising at 80mph.

That's very good indeed, and nowhere near mine. :(

Hopefully the coolant sensor will sort something out. May also have the engine flushed and get the oil changed.

You didn't say if your mpg figures were 'tank, brim to brim' or 'in car trip'. My above figure is Brim to Brim calculated and an average taken over 21,000miles, I did get a Brim to Brim calculation of 59.1mpg for 1 trip, my trip computer usually over-read by 2-3mpg.

At the time my journeys consisted of x4 60mile round trips to work (motorway/dual carrigeway/Sheffield town centre) then on my days off I would do 60miles per day in school runs (x4 15mile trips, motorway/b-roads).

IMO the 6speed sell for economy was a fraud (unless doing alot of HIGH motorway milage), a work collegue did a similar journey to work as I did BUT he was always in the outside lane of the motorway and would ofter do a similar milage in 5-10minutes less than me but his tdi110 always returned a better mpg than my pd130.

If the CTS is goosed then it's likely it's over-fuelling at the moment.

130 - 44/45 mpg actual for town/mixed driving is bang on.

Those figures quoted are in car computer however when calculated brim to brim I have never been mor than 4 mpg out and I have calculated over 60mpg before on brim to brim.

It's interesting as my octavia is a 03 110 tdi hatch with 88,000mls on the clock and I am going to go for an estate next, I was thinking of the octy mk2 1.9 tdi, I thought that the PD engines are less fuel efficient by reading this however another user has stated in the other thread that he/she got 68mpg out of a tank and 722 miles, surely there can't be that much of a difference between cars with the exact same engine?

The PD105 is amazing on fuel, I can't better the fuel economy of my parents PD105 with my PD140 but I did manage it once with my PD130

Don't beat yourself up over it, it was a lot of cruise control at 60mph to get those figures. It's only that I do that trip a lot and need to save costs, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered.

"Normal" driving, mostly up & down a B road to Scarborough, I get about 55mpg. :)

Sorry to hear your niggles on your Oct'y,

If it were me i would list all your problems down and run it along to Jim at JKM and I'm sure he will know how to fix them  they are also Briskoda Sponsers,

Interesting about the varying economy- I'm still getting used to cruising on turbo torque (I find that having the instant economy read-out helps a lot), and as such I'm kind of ragging the car more than I need to. Been playing around with the 'being in fifth for a lot of the time' method, and it works quite nicely.

In other news, changed the coolant temp sensor tonight. Yanked out the old black one, got covered in about a quart of yucky pink liquid and popped in the new one- took less than a minute. Thank feck it's an easy change!

The glow plug light now goes out within a second of the key being turned, as opposed to the 8-10 secs previously, even after a long run..!

The car also starts a lot smoother, and sounds less agricultural at idle- amazing how an £8 sensor can apparently change so much. I managed to score one from eBay for that price delivered, so we'll see how it holds up- it's by a company called Topran, from Germany. Give me a shout if you want a link.

Happy Sam. :)

Not comparing like with like. Modded/not, town/motorway cruise etc. I had a turbo 4x4 that struggled to do 24mpg normally, did a 700 mile trip in a day and got a clear run hardly changed out of 6th the whole way at steady speed and it nearly averaged 40. Hardly unexpected is it?

Bet you find you get better mpg now too.

Good result on the CTS. You might need to top up the header tank a little if you lost some coolant while you were changing it.

I averaged just over 60mpg on my trip to Farnborough and back today, and I was pretty much at the legal limit of every road I was on (A roads, M27, M3 - all when quiet).

Thanks- my best friend is very close with them and we're nipping down in the near future to discuss some performance options for the little bugger. Just wanted to get all the kinks ironed out first- from now on it's simple stuff (like dents and dodgy trim) that aren't strictly causing the car to run like crap.

2S2F- I hope so. Although even with a borked sensor I was doing around 30% better than my Civic for economy... no matter how gently I drove that car, I'd struggle to get more than 340 miles out of the same sized tank!

chicken_eyebrow- yeah, I'm picking some up from the auto factors a bit later. I'm still way above minimum, but it's nice to just keep it fresh.

Kandy- I know what you mean, the aforementioned Civic used to do fair mileage as soon as you hit a motorway. No 6th gear was frustrating though- 70 was about 3,500rpm. Too high!

Oh, and thanks to Matt (mbames) for the guidance too! Your surprise package will be arriving tomorrow or Thursday!

Remember you need to top up the coolant using G12++ (purple?) rather than blue coolant, unless you just stick a bit of water in.... is it warm down here on the south coast B)

Package..... hopefully it will arrive when I am at home as my letterbox is stupidly small in size :'(

Cheers again Matt! I'll be getting some come payday (next week :o ).

It's fairly well-proportioned. It may should arrive tomorrow... technically... or today... I don't know any more, Royal Mail are weird. :dull:
