Just picked up my new L&K... Octimus Prime.

Sounds like there's a common problem. Check the earthing around the aerial base? Water ingress? Corrosion? Normal Symphony reception should be more than adequate in most areas.

Earthing at the aerial base if just the the nut on the underside of the roof with a few spokes in it.

Get some proper mk4 Golf Aero wipers on there rather than those chunky aftermarket ones (need new arms too), makes it look a hundred times better.

Link me... :dull:

More problems. Genuinely fed up at the moment.

The glow plug light takes around 8-10 seconds to go out (I counted).

This morning, after turning the key immediately after the light went out, it still hadn't started after 4/5 tries.

Battery or glow plug problem? I have a new set of glow plugs. Half tempted to fit right now but it could be a pain in the arse. How much work is it, realistically?

Hi VladSoilerOfCarpets,

I am just enquiring if yoy still have the dog guard available for my L & K estate wit black leather unholstry?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

Yeah it's now living in my garage and I certainly won't be using it! It's a little on the bulky side, not sure about posting it.

is it a mesh one or a bar one and are all fittings with it? do you want anything for it and could we arrange a courier to collect it.

Well, had a nice trip out today. Headlight seems to be working for now, so fingers crossed (4 days in a row without a failure! Yay!)

Average mpg so far is around 45.6 including a bit of town driving, 75-80 on the motorways, no real traffic to speak of- sound about right? Looking into a panel filter to free some breathing, then a nice Milltek exhaust system, and finally a remap to string it all together. Won't be until a few paycheques time though!

I do have a strange, hollow knocking noise at the back of the car, on the exhaust side. According to some previous MOT notes the clamp holding the backbox was a tad rusty- could that be the source of the noise? It's driving me insane! :'(

Also, having changed the glow plugs she's still a slow starter- found out if you just hold the key on the ignition position, she grudgingly gives in and starts. But the glow plug light still takes 8-10 seconds to go out with a new set of NGKs. Battery issue?

Those small niggles aside, loving it. I do miss my Honda's completely niggle-free existence (small issue of doing 30-ish mpg aside), but the Octavia is definitely getting under my skin- it's a very likeable car that is a new teapot of salmon for me.

45mpg is probably about right although with the Miltek/panel filter & remap you should see closer to 50mpg  , I had an Average of 304270_41.pngover 21,000miles with my PD130 Octavia, which had a Turbo Back Miltek (resonated), Jabba Generic remap, PiperCross Panel filter. (click on mpg to get a more detailed look)

The knocking could be the exhaust mountings where they have rusted through, I found my OEM mountings broke in the middle of the car and due to the exhaust rubbers stretching over time it used to knock on the torsion beam when carrying people/load.

ps. Love the colour of your car

Brilliant! I was looking at the resonated Milltek earlier. What does the stealth pipe look like? Have you got any pictures? And how much was the Jabba remap, if you don't mind saying so?

I had a feeling it was exhaust-related as it sounds so hollow- I'm used to knocking from knackered shocks/droplinks and it's a very different sound. I didn't notice it at all on the test drive with just two people in the car, but it's always there when there's 4 people in the car (I don't have OCD, just that I usually car-share and the car is used for family trips out!).

Thanks! I've not seen another one in Admiral Blue yet. Needs a machine polish as there are shedloads of nasty little scratches, and some PDR would be good- looks like someone's been shooting the passenger side with an air rifle.

exhaust centre mountings rusting away is a common issue

don't bother with panel filter - just fit a new oe one every year, cheaper and will have the same effect

might wanna also change fuel filter, just another possibility to eliminate poor starting, cheap and worthwhile too regardless of issues/faults

I did a write up when I had it fitted, I was the 1st to have one fitted to a PD130 from Awesome but from the conversasions I had with AwesomeSarah & she had with Miltek I think I'm right in saying mine was the 1st in the country B) .

Here's the write up (with pictures)

I can't remember the price of the remap as I will have had it done in 2008/2009 but remaps have come down alot in price since then. Research your remapping company before you choose one. My PD130 had approx 85/86k on it when I had it remapped @ 3yr old and needed a new clutch within 1week of having the remap fitted, my map was quite aggresive and I liked that but the clutch didn't so I bought a Sachs Organic clutch rated to 350ftlb and didn't have any issues after that

STSKODA- easy to replace?

Matthew- that's awesome! I'd personally go for shiny tips poking out the back... but I'm strange like that. Still not too much of a giveaway! I've been looking into Revo Technik remaps from JKM as they're close by and recommended by a friend. Doesn't seem terribly aggressive- 170bhp/280lb/ft seems fairly tame, seeing as it's 130bhp/230lb/ft standard (I think).

Those seem like good figures although the way the power is delivered has a big bearing on longevity of components.

Mine showed figures of 170bhp & 320ftlb before the Miltek so just from the remap but it did have a spike low down as you can see in the graph on my other thread (blue line)

The amount of shoooooooove was amazing though :giggle: it really used to supprise people

See, I'd like to keep the car useable day to day... is the clutch expensive to fit? Sorry, you're my new best friend now that I know you've done all this... :giggle:

Yeah that element of surprise is what I'd like... my old Civic used to catch pretty much every boy racer on the Isle of Wight by surprise... that car was amazingly composed and bloody quick down a pointy road. Used to cover ground at an astonishing rate, dispatching many a Saxo and MG along the way! :D

hi sam when i bought my l and k there was no 1st and 2nd gear so priced a clutch, best price was about £500 plus fitting but turned out it was gearbox (the clutch to fit in these is a dual mass and therefore cannot be converted to a solid fly wheel)i am more than happy with my l and k. My old car was a vectra gsi.By the way any news n the dog guard?

Thanks Jeff, good to know- just have to be exceptionally careful when I get the remap done! :giggle:

I'm going to weight the dog guard in a minute and let you know how much courier costs will be- I would've done it yesterday but we had a nice day out at the beach for dad's birthday. Sorry for the wait!

EDIT: Just got the measurements Jeff. 113x83x13. Not sure about weight yet.

I had this problem for 2 years on my 110bhp tdi. Tried allsorts. In the end I changed my coolant temperature sensor (as I had a new one knocking around, £8 from GSF) and it starts pretty much on the first turn now, even when it's -12 out there :)

Might be worth a try. Easy to do yourself if you're quick not to let too much coolant escape.

Nice one, I'll give it a shot. Thanks. :)

Access to VAGCOM/VCDS should also show up if the CTS to dodgy. By the fact your glowplug light stays on for more than a split second in the current weather does suggest something temperature related isn't working as it should be.

OK, I'll get one of those ordered and pop it in- just opened the Haynes and had a look, can't be any more difficult than the (frankly easy) glow plugs!

I can't remember where the CTS is on the 130, but on the 110 it is easy. Get a new o-ring too.

1. Remove engine cover for easier access

2. Place new o-ring on new CTS

3. Remove retaining clip from old CTS

4. Remove old CTS and o-ring

5. Insert new CTS and o-ring

6. Reinsert clip

7. Disconnect loom from old CTS and attach to new CTS

8. Top up coolant levels if you let more than a few drops escape.

9. Replace engine cover (if removed)

The car was very usable day to day, it's just a case of being a little gentle with your right foot  , from memory the Sachs clutch was around £700 fitted and to my knowledge the car is still going strong with the same clutch at over 150k (fitted around 86k). I didn't replace the DMF either as I didn't have any trouble with it.

I think because of the big lump of torque thats what helped with the economy, at the time I did alot of A/B road driving around the Peak District which was great fun :giggle::thumbup:

Drop me a PM when-ever you want to ask a question, I'll do my best to answer it

Thanks, Matt²!

It'll be a while before anything significant happens, but the new coolant sensor is on the way. Want to concentrate sorting out the niggles first before I go mental with other stuff.

On that note, the driver's side Xenon had a funny turn again earlier- didn't work, then whilst at the traffic lights (undoubtedly much to the chagrin of the poor sod in front of me), I turned them on and off a couple of times- caught the second time. Faulty ballast, ignitor or bulb? The lights are ridiculously hard to find... a new ballast from a cheaper site ain't exactly small change either.

I always thought the 130 with 6 speed was better on fuel than the old 5 speed 110? I regularly get well over 60mpg on my normal driving route to work and back (52 miles round trip including two town centres and a dual carrage way) and on a trip over the weekend I did 59.6mpg on the motorway cruising at 80mph.
