Going to see a car tomorrow - Few questions?

Featured Replies

Evening all, just after a bit of advice and to get a general opinion on the following car:

2006 VRS Estate, 2.0l T Petrol FSI

Black

18"s

Xenons

10 Months MOT

3 Months Tax

55k Miles with Full history (Not all Skoda)

3 owners in total

He wants £6k for it, said three wheels are kerbed and there's a couple of scuffs here and there...

Does this sound good?

I've asked about a few things, these are the negatives:

sounds like it will need a Cambelt, will possibly need new brakes at some point soon, tyres not great, few scratches here and there and 3 kerbed wheels, Tax due soon, Not all skoda history...

But it's £6k so does seem very cheap considering these bits??? I'm trying to price up the bits that are needed but it's hard to tell exactly...

Any advice or comments welcome!!!

I've recently paid 7K for a 56 plate vRS TFSi estate with xenons maxidot and 18's, 58k miles with full skoda service history including belt. Two former keepers, and it had MOT until January. Was pretty much immaculate. I got the dealer to throw in 6 months tax and 12 months RAC warranty and breakdown, talked them into reducing the price from £7995.

Is the one your looking at private or dealer?

Excellent, that sounds a good deal to be honest. This is a private sale so just paying cash...

Even for £6k though I can probably justify getting the other bits done as I have around £7500 to spend in total so it's either do this and get a few bits done or try and get one that's pretty perfect (like the one you got by the sounds of it)!

Have a check on autotrader or such like, search make / model, 1k either side of your price range, this should give you an idea of what available and allow a comparison.

I'd keep lookin if I were you mate.

I've been obsessively searching daily just trying to see what's about but typically there aren't actually that many....

I've actually found a few on the Skoda UK site that aren't far away but like the guy above I'd love a deal like that but didn't think £1k off from a dealer was really possible!! I know things are hard at the moment though and things just aren't selling so I'll give them a call in the morning to see where they stand with it and what deal they can do me...

Thanks

Took me 4 months of searching to find exactly what I wanted. If this one isn't perfect, keep looking, the right one will come up.

Took me a twelve month to find mine thou i was in no rush. Id keep looking.

Cant see anything wrong with it to be honest, except that the cambelt is overdue if its not been done as it should have been changed in 2010.

Sounds like a good price to me. I wanted an Estate, but I gave up in the end after several months of looking for a low mileage one within my budget and bought a hatch. There seem to be about 10 hatches to every estate or certainly was when I was looking.

The cambelt should cost about £300 at an independant specialist and a wheel refurbish would be a about £200 and would give you the opportunity to change the colour of them, I think grey like the modern Audis would look good.

Make sure it's got climate control as some of the early cars I looked at only have air conditioning and don't have the chilled jumbo box/armrest or air vents in the back of the car.

Donno where you are located but hows about this one, bit over 7.5k but thats just the asking price :D

1 owner, FSH, cam belt done, full test and warranted, looks immac.

Thanks mate, Ideally looking for a Petrol now though and would rather get around 50k or less if possible... That one does look nice though!

Thanks mate, I've actually found one for sale at Coventry Skoda, it's up for £8495 so if there's any chance i could get it down to £7500 i'll take it if it's as described!!

Just got to try and convince them to knock £1k off for a quick easy sale to a cash buyer haha.

I have also actually just found a Race Blue Estate on Ebay with 42k Miles going for £7995 which look really nice, I may try and get to see that as it's only 50 miles from me too.

Sounds like a very neglected car.

So many things already spotted, what else is hidden. I think you're on for a hiding for nothing.

There are so many other good cars from Skoda dealers all carrying a 12 month warranty, why take the risk.

If I were to make an offer for this car it would only be if the seller agreed to get a full Skoda report ( at their expense)

and then and only then would go no more then £4.5K

You have hit the nail on the head, the final point that did it for me was when he said the tyres aren't that great as the were 2nd hand when he put them on so the car has obviously been run on a bit of a shoe string so god knows what else has been left...

I'd be looking at £1500 easily to get it all sorted so would rather just buy one that's already done!

I've found a lovely one nearer home so going to see it tonight!

Details are 56 Reg, Race Blue, Esate, Petrol, 42k Miles, Xenons, Cruise, Parking Sensors, 18's, Jumbo air box etc, Aux In, Full service history from Skoda, also has Skoda warranty until April as they purchased from a dealer earlier this year (April) for £9100. It's had 4 new tyres and obviously has been looked after

It's going for £7995 but think I can get it for £7500 which I'll be happy with??

I believe from the enquiries I made that only cars under 60k miles IIRC are 'Skoda Approved' and come with 12 months warranty, but it's definitely worth looking at the dealers for the right car.

I paid a decent price for my 07 plate car with Maxidot, xenons and rain/dusk sensor (and all the other bits made standard on MY07 cars), knowing I would have to fork out for the belt and water pump replacement (£316 from an indy). I got 12 months MOT and the next service chucked in with the remainder of the service pack (and the £100 voucher for accessories) so there are definitely plenty of well priced cars out there.

That sounds like this one. Been for sale on eBay for a while. IIRC it was first up at £8500 but that was a good month or so ago.

I can't get to Ebay, but yeah that would be correct I'm sure!

Seems a good buy for £7500 doesn't it? Not far off yours really by the sounds of it, I know he paid £9100 from a Dealer in April so not bad.

And the rest - I found it when I was looking for one and I've had mine for just over 6 weeks. Before the price dropped there were newer cars on eBay for similar prices, especially if you want maxidot (which is 400 quid retrofit) so I wouldn't be surprised if a deal couldn't be done.
