Bluetooth & Phone issues

Featured Replies

My Yeti 170 Elegance - first registered March 2010 - has a factory fitted Sat Nav with Bluetooth. After initial pairing with my mobile - Apple Iphone 3GS - the bluetooth connection provides the best handsfree reception and speech quality that I have ever experienced - on any phone! Alas, some of the features that should be accessible in the Phone Menu are not displayed, namely Voice Mailbox, Bluetooth and Settings. Furthermore, the Bluetooth icon which sits at the top right hand corner of the touch screen, is not illuminated in either Media or any other mode; streaming music from the phone, or ipad2, is not possible. The Menu choices that I have are not the same as those shown in the pdf. document for the Yeti, produced by Skoda, (which shows the Iphone 3 being used in the pictorial setup).

The Yeti was at the local dealership all day yesterday and they were unable to find any fault with the system. They have now sent the query to Skoda as they have gone as far as they are able with their 'in-house' diagnostic interrogation.

Has anyone out there had a similar problem?

Is that phone supported by the system?

Yes. Please see my comment at last sentence - in brackets - end of paragraph one

I'm sorry to say that having something in a photo in a Skoda brochure isn't actually proof that it'll work, as many of us know all too well!

I have an iPhone 4 and all works as I expect it to.

I did have a problem once when it didn't log in, but a simple turn off car and restart sorted out the problem.

By the way, this should be posted in the Ice, security and insurance section on Briskoda, rather than in the Yeti section, as it is an ice issue rather than a yeti issue, don't be surprised if a mod moves it.

It is a yeti issue. Yeti's built before June 2010 did not have the hardware installed to allow Bluetooth audio streaming.

I don't have the satnav in my Yeti so I can't comment on what you should or shouldn't be seeing in the UI. However...

With the Bolero radio and the BT kit, you have to enable BT Audio through the Setup menu in order to be able to stream music from a BT connected phone. If you don't have BT Audio enabled then it will prompt you to enable it if you start playing a music track on a BT connected phone (or if the phone decides to start playing music of its own accord, which mine has a habit of doing!) Bottom line: you can't control music streaming through the Bolero, you have to do it on the phone.

As I say, I don't know whether the satnav works exactly the same way but I'd be surprised if it was significantly different.

The Yeti Bolero handbook from May 2009 describes how to do Bluetooth audio streaming.

Apples and Pears!

First, the Bolero and Columbus supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Headset Profile (HSP), early Yeti does not!

A early Yeti supports only the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and Headset Profile (HSP)

The handbook for Bolero and Columbus shows AUX and MDI, in Sweden we do not get AUX when we order MDI.

The early handbook shows how to stream music, but the car can't do it.

But the handbook is the same!

So early Yeti, no Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)

I think it was after 2010v22 we got (A2DP) and (AVRCP) in our lovely cars!

Under the passenger seat (left hand drive) there is a box, it's the Bluetooh box.

To get A2DP in a early Yeti we need to change the box to a never version.

We need a 9W7 Bluetooth controller box and some magic with VCDS.

PS

In UK cars the bluetooth unit is under the drivers seat and the sound system amplifier if specified is under the front passenger seat.

I have an iPhone 4S now which paired perfectly and everything works. Before this I had had an iPhone 3GS which worked perfectly as well. No issues either. I know this won't help but at least shows that the 3GS should work without any issues.

Do you have the latest OS on your 3GS?

I have a January '10 on which likewise my dealer could not sort BT streaming. I gave up as I was told it's not available on early Yetis.

Hello John,

At last, somebody with a Yeti, with Sat Nav, of the same vintage as mine! I think I will give up on the prospect of audio streaming - but could you tell me if, in your phone settings on your MFD between the speedo and rev counter dials, can you access Voice Mailbox, Bluetooth and Settings?

Much obliged.

Just to add to the pot, we have an Oct '10 Elegance with Bolero (no Sat Nav) and use an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4

Both stream perfectly

I would recommend deleting the pairing and "forgetting" the Skoda device on youriPhone

Pair from scratch and see what functions appear on the iPhone screen once it's finished

Play the iPod and see if you get a triangle symbol that gives you the option to stream to the Skoda

Once it's streaming, press Media button on the Skoda and the Bluetooth button (top right) should then be available to press

You can't access the media using the maxi dot and the track controls on the Bolero don't work, but that's due to the slightly odd BT drivers that Apple use

Oh yes, you have to be on at least iOS 4.0 on the iPhone. I'm on iOS 5.0
