3rd Service

Thanks for that JJBS3, thats what I thought but don't really want to take any chances with the Haldex. If I was to get under the car to have a look myself what would I be looking for? I assume the Haldex is mounted where I would normally expect to find a transfer box on a 4x4? or is it in place of the rear diff? (Sorry I'm rather ignorant of the layout of this type of 4 wheel drive system)

Thanks.

have a look here mate, you should be able to identify this in the drive train, then look over it amd see these 'leaking' seals yourself.

Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated.

I am gonna take it into an Indy VAG specialist for a second opinion as I got a shock when prices came through. I rang the Indy up and he couldn't believe the list for a 3.5 year old car with 63k miles.

I think I will also contact SUK to enquire about goodwill.

Prices from Skoda dealer were:

Sorry for the late reply. The prices for the items found on the service are below.

Haldex oil change         £114.95

Rear bump stops          £134.95

Haldex coupling bush    £394.95

Haldex oil seals            £234.95

Front drop links            £112.95

Choke! + 3 hours labour for looking at rear washer.

Thanks Grizzle, that makes things a bit clearer, not an ultra urgent job then I would say.

Right, quick update after visit to Indy, the Haldex coupling bush is indeed knackered and needs replacing and the Haldex oil seal on nearside is weeping slightly however it appears their is a Haldex update kit covering both of these parts suggesting a possible weakness in the original parts?

I will see what SUK have to say about this when I get back from Ireland.

Anyway to supply and fit this kit and provide a haldex oil/filter change The Indy was talking £375 (although i could knock £75 off this as he thought the oil seal wasn't bad enough to need doing at this point) as opposed to the £750 quoted by the stealer!

He also looked at drop links and bump stops and said their was no adverse wear or play requiring any attention!

So we are down from circa £1k to sub £375! Big up to Roy Anderson at Andersons motors in Oldham for his help so far (even though he may not get any work out of it if SUK provide some goodwill) top bloke.

Bit miffed at the dealer now though and thinking Mr Anderson will get my future servicing work.

How did you get on in the end? Did you go to the indy? Any goodwill from Skoda UK?

My Scout is the same age as yours (August 2008) but with less mileage (30K).

I'll have to have a peek underneath to check for leaks...

Hi Silver,

No goodwill from Skoda, apparently Haldex needs an oil change every 20k and a filter change every 40k, as mine had not been touched by 63k they declined to help. It seems I was spoiled by my previous car (Hyundai Santa Fe) as when it went in for a service the dealer did everything that was necessary at the appropriate millaege/age requirement, there was none of this "Its had a service sir and is now due for the timing belt change, Haldex oil change, break fluid change, DSG oil change etc. etc. etc. for gods sake just include all of these in the routine servicing, why would I want a half arsed job doing on my car, if I want it serviced and break fluid should be changed every two years routinely then of course I want that doing as part of my service, why wouldn't I?

Yes my Santa Fe cost £700 for the 70k service (Timing belt, 4wd system hydraulic oil etc.) but I would prefer this to the "When would you like to bring the car back for the rest of the work Sir?"

Rant over.

See previous post for Indy in Oldham, he knows his stuff. In the end though I did the Haldex oil and filter myself (Very easy job, just like changing engine oil except you need to squirt the oil in). I have not got around to the rest yet but the Haldex coupling is next on my list, which will probably get done at Anderson's.

Wow, Haldex oil change at 20,000 miles?

Mine is on 30,000 miles and has had three services at Skoda main dealers - no one mentioned to me that the Haldex oil needed doing!

No one said anything to me at the 40000 service either, it just really anoys me that these things aren't just included as they obviously need to be done.

Acording to my dealer the Haldex oil change interval is at 10k for my 2010 Scout. It may be a later generation of haldex. Your dealer is somewhat negligent for not advising you to have the oil change.

You could possibly try a small claims court claim against your dealer.

Hope you get it sorted.
