How do I run a wire from fuse box to mutebox (behind radio)

Featured Replies

Hi

I am about to install Parrot MKI9000 into my skoda octavia 1,9 TDi 08'. But there isnt a 12v wire to the mute box. I have read (on this site) that I have to run a wire from the fuse box. But how do I do that? And why is it not possible to connect it to the radio powerconnection?

sorry for my bad english

Do you want to mute the radio when the phone rings? If so I'm not sure what connections the parrot unit has, but my Nokia handsfree has a yellow wire for the mute.

The MK2 Octavia is all Canbus switched so there is no switched 12V feed behind the radio. There are 2 12V supplies to the radio, but they are both always on, so to get a switched supply you must go back to the fusebox.

I think there is a switched live on the back of the stereo, get yourself a test light and see which wire makes the lamp light when you turn on the ignition. Failing that buy yourself an Elan Intellimute and a Parrot accessory harness and you won't have to search for any cable. Entirely plug and play.

I can confirm that there is not one, this is why if you buy the radio conversion kit from the dealer which comes with everything you need to fit an aftermarket radio, it comes with a wire that you need to run back to the fusebox for the switched supply.

was there not someone on here supplying the switched live wires??

Buy them from your dealer. They are cheap

The only 12v ignition supply ive found behind the dash so far is the feed for the heater switches but not sure how much power you could draw off of it before fuses start blowing. Its not a big job running a wire from the fuse box.

I ran a piggy back fuse holder from the fuse box using the windscreen washer jet as its only one when the ignition is on. Had it in place for 4/5 months and had no problems
