Noise

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Can anyone relate to my problem.

I have a 2005 Classic model octavia 1.9 tdi.

I have a noise like a rumbling noise only when turning to right on bends or roundabouts and it seems worse in third gear.

The noise totally disappears when i dip the clutch. There is no whine or noise from gearbox when driving straight and gears are smooth.

I did notice the passenger side cv boot is burst and leaking a bit of grease.

Can any one help ?

Thanks

I'd be inclined to get that looked at first. Whilst it's in the garage get them to give it a good check over.

Get the CV boot cleaned out (incase it is full of grit), repacked with grease and a new boot on it first.

Ignoring the bit about dipping the clutch, it sounds the nearside wheel bearing.

Thanks for replies.

I recently had wheel bearings done. When i am driving and the noise in question arises, If I take it out of gear or press clutch, it goes away. Don't know if it's a drive shaft issue, gearbox or CV joint. As mentioned, it's only when turning right. It's not a clunking noise like CV joint failure when turning.

clutch release bearing?

Maybe when the bearings were done they caused an issue with one of the driveshafts....

Long shot, but could it possibly be an engine mount? If it stops when the clutch is dipped, it could be the force of the wheels turning the engine that's making the engine move too much the wrong way (If that makes sense).

Can't see it being a diff/gearbox issue, as it would still do it when the clutch is pressed. Unless it does it when the gearbox is under load.
