I followed an old yank-tank a while ago. The bumper-sticker read "Disc brakes are for sissys!"

Well the votes are in and based on that I am going to be boring and go for red!  I now have two choices, I can either buy some caliper paint and do them myself, or a company local to me will powder cost them for £50.  I'm swaying toward the powder coat for durability and finish but they have said they need the caliper stripped for the process (temps up to 200 celsius).  I would guess the pistion rings/seals will need removing but what else?

Lee I think you should fit the full set all round! looks more balanced imo

+1 It is more balanced!

Been there and did it!! I know they only do a small percentage of the braking, but the rears are important too. Having driven with standard rears and then the S3's, the fully matched set was worth it. You do notice them when handling the fast twisty winding stuff

Colour wise, leave em black IMHO! A much more stealthy look and the factory finish seems to last well!

I am so tempted, the more I look at the OE rears, the more I can't believe how small they are!

If you have the rears, get them on. They certainly look the part and you will only regret it if you don't. As for the painting, powder coated is the only way. I stripped mine down and had a mate do them for £20. The finish is great and way better than previous callipers that I have painted myself. I stripped them back so just the calliper metal was left, but of a pain but worth the extra trouble.

After a dismal attempt at using Halfrauds caliper paint I will be powder coating now, what did you use to strip them, sand paper and elbow grease or some nasty concoction? I have completely seperated them so essentially I have 4 lumps of heavy metal. Would your friend consider doing mine if I sent to you? I could arrange a courier to collect once they are done??? :)

Regarding fitting the rears, I understand they are bigger (only 22mm though) and the discs are vented, but I need them gone to pay for the stage 2 remap. As I don't do track days, or hit the windy stuff hard I think the OE rears will be fine....... B)

Lee, I've never had issue with the standard rears even at k04 level. Yeh it can get a bit skittish if really on the middle pedal but no problems at all

Thanks for that Harry.

Sorry, when I said stripped I meant removed all the bits. The body shop stripped the original blue paint off for me. I will speak to my mate but have a feeling he is not working at the moment due to an injury.

Sent him a text, just waiting for a reply.

You're a gentlemen.

Still not had a reply which is odd. He's not a close friend, so may well have the wrong number as I haven't spoken to him in months. Will double check and get back to you.

My mate can do the calipers for you. He has quoted £30. I think he massively under charged me last time and quoted £20 before seeing how much work was involved. Up to you as I'm not sure how much postage will be as they are bloody heavy buggers! Let me know.
