Golf GTI outpaced

Featured Replies

Quite surprised me this!

I was in a 50mph average speed camera nonsense on the M62 the other day sat on middle lane at bang on 50 in 4th gear, next to me was aforementioned GTI on 59 plate.

Anyhow as we come to end of roadworks back into national speed limit he presses his horn!

I looked at him( young kid of about 25) and he gestures a race.

Now me being a sensible road user... I agree!

So from a rolling start at fifty and the national speed limit signs as a starting point off we go.

I dropped it down a cog thinking he'd do the same.

I've got to say 50 to 70mph me in third i left him!

I stopped at 70 obviously😉 and let him pass, I don't know who was more surprised.

BTW Ive got FL vRS 170 CR

Perfectly legal, 50 to 70 on a motorway I believe.

They are quicker than people think - 0-60 measured on mine is 6.98 and the 50-70 run will probably see you in the right power/torque ratio too.

50-70 racing, thats a new one on me.....or maybe it could be just a bit of fun getting up to the speed limit out of roadworks :wonder:

Didn't realise that there was a law on how fast you could get to the speed limit :dull:

No breach as I was clearly within the legal speed limit on a motorway.

It's not a racing thread.

Its a thread on the virtues of diesel torque against petrol torque within the speed limit.

I looked at him( young kid of about 25) and he gestures a race.

You can put lipstick on a pig.. its still a pig!

Im not judging one way or the other, just pointing out the facts before anyone gets their knickers in a twist.

The Golf driver wasn't trying.

Also, you must be ancient if you think 25 is a "kid" :giggle:

Ok, mods can close the thread now. Kthxbai! B)

I'm going to leave it a little while so others see this, but I expect this thread to not be around for long! :D

What's all the fuss about!?

IT WAS WITHIN THE SPEED LIMIT ON A MOTOWAY!

Get a life people please, or have we grown into a humourless, PC, health and safety nation of do gooders?!

Come on chaps.

If that's the case the order books for the City Go should be full!

Either he wasn't trying or he can't drive.

A Golf GTI will beat a derv vRS. That's just how it is.

Section 12 Road Traffic Act 1988

(1) A person who promotes or takes part in a race or trial of speed between motor vehicles on a public way is guilty of an offence

Matters not one jot whether you are under the speed limit or not :dull:

£2500 maximum fine and mandatory disqualification

It's not PC nor H&S.

The forum is chortling heartily at you for bragging about racing a Golf GTi in your tractor and "winning" when the Golf GTi driver was clearly not trying/disabled.

Maybe if you'd thought about changing it to "was on a trackday" or something like that. Simply put, you could race from 0 to 40 in a 60 limit and it is still illegal racing. Again, going to leave this a little longer to stew, but probably someone else will pull the plug as its been reported.

That'll be me then :D
