Buying second hand Fabia

Featured Replies

well done, if at first you don't succeed.....

I spent hours trying to get my stereo to push back and click in. Seems that the pile of wires and connectors at the back is the problem.

Head unit has been fine. Did the door seals yesterday, + WD40'd the boot and bonnet catches as they were a bit sticky, the boot light seems less intermittent now.

Today it's gone in for a general check-over by a very kind neighbour, they're also fitting the reverse light switch for me. So that should be all my problems solved.

One more thing, the rear window washer isn't working, I hear the pump but it doesn't spray. I've read the thread on it, but I wanted to check. Does it need the cap on the rear jet to function? Mine doesn't have the plastic cap on it, I can see one on eBay for £4.50 so might buy that, just want to check.

Matt

It is possible the pipe to the rear has come unclipped at some point. It does this either in the engine bay (water will appear on the floor as you spray) or behind the trim rear passenger side - here the screenwash goes down to the footwell and makes the carpet wet.

The neighbour fixed it for me! And the reverse light switch which also needed new wiring.

He had it up on the ramp and gave it a really good look over and only discovered one fault. Rear right brake is leaking a small amount he said, so that's around £75 to have done? That sound about right?

Every thing's working great now :D

which washer prob did you have out of interest?

What do you mean by rear brake light leaking? Do you mean it's showing white light, filling up with water, or there's condensation inside? If it's condensation it will probably ease with time as moisture content in the car goes down (which probably got in through leaking door carriers/screenwash). A dehumidifier may help.

No idea, he didn't say.

I didn't say brake light I said brake. I think it's the rear right brake cylinder?

Doh, my stupidity reading a word that isn't there , yep. If it's visible without removing the drum will be leaking quite a bit I suspect. Definitely needs to be fixed, and an ideal opportunity to have the brake fluid renewed if it's not clear when this was last done. Lack of brake fluid renewal could be what caused the leak. Worth giving the other side a good check also with the drum off.

Worst case scenario is you end up replacing both rear cylinders and shoes. Cylinder itself is about £18 for one, set of shoes about £30, a litre of brake fluid couple of quid. I imagine all that would take about an hour for a competent mechanic with decent garage facilities.

Thanks for the advice, am having all that done tomorrow.

Last thing I can think of now, wiper blades? Do I get some OEM ones or get some Bosch ones or something?

Bosch-good deals on Ebay.

I use auto wipers and they are superb, £15 for the set, auto express rate them too - which is why I went for them

The rear is a special fit one which is dealer only I think. Only costs a couple of quid.
