Mini Coupe SD offered to me at work

well i wasn't that offended by it after reading reviews and looking at lots of pictures.

it's only when i saw a Cooper S model in dark blue with a white roof that i saw how odd and truly ugly some of the proportions are.

ANYWAY A MAJOR UPDATE.

I sent the order through for the SD yesterday but attached a huge rant about why i would have had to pay extra for the vRS even though it's the cheaper car by about 4k, lower insurance group etc etc

So i came into the office today to find an email saying that the vRS wasn't a pay extra car and that it was a mistake on the list.

So i've specced up a quote, with options:

Rear electric windows

Sunglasses holder

Amusden Sat nav

Black magic pearl paint

black wheels.

AND LOWERINGS SPRINGS INC FITTING AND ALIGNMENT FROM DEALERS!!!!(eibach springs)

SO nice high spec and lowered from new! awesome.

and because it's faster than the Coupe SD i'm more than happy not to remap it too.(though once i've had it a year i will try to persuade them to let me)

SO signiture change coming up!!!

I'm so F**ing happy i know finally have a vRS on order.

Well done Sonner!

You'll have to start driving at more than 45mph now. ;)

Yes. A proper car! None of this Mini rubbish!

Hi,

An alternative view would be which car would you not buy privately but would under the protection of a company car scheme.

Does your scheme include Alfa 159 2.4 jtdm.

I wish I had your choice.

Best wishes

John

NO the Alfa 2.4jdtm was on my company car wish list, along with a BMW 123d coupe. but alas the options i had where very restricted. and did not include either of those

Having only seen 2 of these Midi Coupes I've got 2 images in mind:

1/ Blonde bimbette with her hair blowing (and pink steering wheel cover)

2/ Short haired bloke with a Freddy Mercury moustache

Says the Chelsea Tractor driving school run mum! :giggle::giggle:

YES BossFox i will certainly drive at more than 45mph as i doubt the dsg will comfortable cruise in 6/7th gear at that speed, i will probs have to get up to 55mph now :0

though even though i drive at 45mph i still on average overtake 4/5 cars per day (72mile round trip)

so i think it's safe to say that number will increase.

according to my HR they stated the lead time should be less than 25weeks!!! tbh if i got my vRS estate in 25weeks i would be a very happy boy.

Good news all round then! Nice one.

So is it the estate you've gone for, rather than the hatch?

yep estate in black with black wheels and lowered on eibach springs, so with the black pack and the sunset glass it should look very steathly indeed,

i will remove the vRS badges too, maybe even stick the 1.2 HTP badge on for a laugh to add to the Q car look.

I think the mini and the octavia are very different cars.

Certainly the mini would show any standard or lightly modified octavia a clean set of heals through the twisties and gives a much better driver experience.

On the other hand, it's not really practical.

Either way, glad you're happy with your car :)

Good call on the estate.

Better looker IMO and lighter, plus with better aerodynamics.

If I went for the mkII that'd certainly be my choice.

I watched two Mini Coupe jwc's race at the nurburgring 24hrs and there was nowt girly about them believe me. Both finished as well!

I drove a coupe sd a few weeks ago and loved it. Go kart handling, cheap tax great economy but definitely needs a re map as it's 60bhp down on my tdi 130 (205bhp)and feels like it.

I'd have one if they weren't so expensive.

woah woah woah Ken, i don't like it, it's just the newest, shiniest and nippiest car available on the list,

all i want it speed and handling. i hate MINI as a brand but i know all my Tunbridge Wells friends/colleagues will be Jealous.

If you hate mini as a brand then you risk choosing a car for all the wrong reasons. If you hate the brand now there is every chance you will grow to hate your car - a that you will be stuck with for however many years.

Have a look at the Mazdas (I'm not just saying that because I drive one), They are not so common, look ok, have great levels of kit and have stonking diesel engines in boththe 3 & the 6. the smaller poof fuel verions are a bit weeak but I believe the bigger petrols are good.

Yes. A proper car! None of this Mini rubbish!

+1

for cheezemonki information it's a fabia vRS not an OCty

thanks for all the positive comments guys.

just a waiting game now. i'm personally happy it i receive it in under 32weeks, 25 weeks would be a stroke of luck in the current VAG group waiting times

nice one well done :) and its the first car Ive had in a long time that I havent mapped yet... doesn't seem to need it... soooo quick

A baby hearse! Oops no that would have been a black Roomster! You made a good choice.... Even though the MINI Coupe is the latest on the block (for now) you would have felt and looked a plank every time you went around in it (I'm sorry your friends would NOT have been jealous - unless you have very weird friends). And you specifically did not want to look like an estate agent?! :giggle: Bless.

But you stay in the Å koda fold. So no harm done to your friends' eyes and feelings in trying to tell you the truth about the MINI Coupe.

Try telling my bosses that. They had a heart attack when they go the delivery dates having only just ordered our new cars.

Current cars leasing/finance/whatever ends in December. I did tell them in Summer to start planning if they were serious about going VAG next, but they decided they knew best :dull:

  • 1 month later...

Have you thought about having the dsg re-calibrated?

I'd take a vrs over a mini sd any day! :)

What the Mini SD really needs is the 2.3L engine you can have in the 1 series. Probably won't fit. Daughter's boyfriend test drove the 2L 1 series (he is an Alfa nut) and found even that very un-envolving compared to the mapped Fabia diesel so the Mini will have to up the anti on the handling front to make the 1.8 L worthwhile. Personally I think the Mini is too gross now and by that I mean too fat. The old original Cooper Mini in Top Gear India was a totally different matter, that was lovely and it was a pity they trashed it.

The SD has a 2.0 engine.

the 123d is also a 2.0 engine not a 2.3, just like the 118d and the 120d :)

It will fit :)

Of course sorry - twin turbo at least I think its a twin turbo. I forget. BMW and their silly names.

It's a twin turbo, the 123d.

The important thing must be though that if a 120d will fit in standard a 123 should fit in without too much work.
