Featured Replies

Hi

Having finally decided on exact model to select 170 dsg elegance, now looking at option of whether to upgrade stereo speakers to 10 or not? What the sound quality like on std 8 speakers? currently have Audi A6 which has 10 speakers and sounds great.

any anyone have comparisions on sound quality, previously had volvo v40 stereo great, mondeo st okay stereo, volvo S80 superb stereoa and passat okay amongst various other vehicles.

thanks

I have the standard setup, and I think its very good. You just need the base and treble at the maximum setting  People say the standard setup sounds 'thin', but from what i gather, that's on slightly older cars (1+ years), and the latest builds have better speakers

I have a four week old Superb with the 10 speaker upgrade and think that it sounds weak and thin. It is as if the whole cello section of the orchestra has packed up and gone home. I dread to think what the 8 speaker system sounds like. You might be better off going for an aftermarket upgrade.

I have the 10 speaker option in my 2 month old Superb. At first I wasn't overly impressed after having had the expensive Bose option in my previous Laguna Coupe. Then I switched on the surround option in TONE and changed the equaliser settings and, whilst I'm no audiophile, it suddenly sounded superior to the Bose in my Renault. I have no regrets having paid for the 10 speaker option.

The standard 8 speaker system gets quite a bad press, but I have found that, while not 'Superb' it is not that bad. It does need careful exploitation of the equalizer settings and maybe suits some music types better than others. I certainly wouldn't totally discount it without having a listen first.

I have the 10 speaker system in my 5 week old superb, you do have to play around with it to get it how you like it (but then you do with any stereo) but, speaking as a bit of an audiophile, the results are excellent for what you pay for it.

I have a MY2011 with Columbus and the 350Watt 10 speaker upgrade. They are ok for the price, but far from good.

In my Volvo i have the factory fitted DynAudio 650Watt 12 speaker surround sound speakers.

When i test my cars beside each other... There is just no comparison. AT ALL!. B)

You get what you pay for with the 10 speaker upgrade. It's not that pricey.

Had car for 2 weeks .

Stereo very good lots of base etc good all round sound and very clear. good value for quite alot of improvement over standard!

Vovlo stereo's always have rocked. had an S80 with upgrade stereo and that was awesome.

I got the upgraded stereo as standard on my elegance build, had the car for 4 months and the rear left speaker has already blown. Decided to replace the whole system since I'm not very happy with the sound. I'm getting the following installed next monday, should sound a lot better :)

Rockford Fosgate P3D410 10" Subwoofer

Rockford Fosgate T400-2 Channel Amplifier

FOCAL 165 VR3 front

Rockford Fosgate T400-4 Channel Amplifier

Focal 165A1 Component rear

Sound deadening front doors

Romaniac did it work out well? What head unit do u have as I was told there is no line outs for amplifiers on the Columbus

Romaniac did it work out well? What head unit do u have as I was told there is no line outs for amplifiers on the Columbus

How does the upgraded speaker system with standard amp connect to the Columbus then? Intrigued to find out as I'll probably swap the speakers out when I can afford to. :) (I specced premium sound and Columbus from the factory on my car)

hi guys, yes i got it all installed and it sounds amazing. I had to get a digital signal processor to make it all work and sound good (alpine h800). The install is great with the amps being in the side panels of the boot and the small 10" sub taking up little space, i still have heaps of room in the boot to store stuff. The only downside is the cost was a bit more than I expected, ended up costing me close to $4000 AUD for the parts and install.

I know that's it very unlikely that you'll even see my question but did you ever confirm that the Columbus head unit can be re-configured for line out? I looked at your alpine solution and that's way out of my budget...

Well the superb has a lot of internal space,so I recommend 10 speakers and the settings/setup can easily be changed to suit your ears !.

I used an Audison bit ten d digital processor in my last vxr8 as the head unit incorporated air. Con controls etc.

It was a fantastic piece of kit for around £350, I will def look to upgrade audio in my elegance estate before long... Mrs has her a4 with a nice set of diamond components and a diamond sub with the bit ten d aswell as two genesis amps and it sounds brilliant, sub is custom built into the side compartment of the estate boot, so the superb has even more space in the back I will def be taking advantage of it
