Fabia vRS mobile phone integration

Featured Replies

I'm taking delivery of the car this saturday. Does the standard car head set allow for integration with a bluetooth phone?

I've got two BT phones, one work, one private, and I would like to be able to switch between them. BT seems like the nicest solution.

Seen some bracket things that fit into the air vent in the middle of the car, but doesn't that obstruct airflow?

Anyone got one of these things fitted, if so and you're able to post an image that would be great :D

Hi... Ive got the Parrot ck3000 in my Fabia.. seems to work pretty well.. atho the wiring is a bit of an **** as theres so little space behind the dash.

unfortunately blutooth can only be connected to one device at once. i have to phones too, it will try to connect to the phones in sequence... ie the order that they were paired.. i think the parrot can pair with 3 phones at once. ive heard the sony erricson one is better tho.

Tnx - will look into that as I'm kinda looking for something better than the dangly wire thing my work supplied me.

I've got a BT headset already but integrating it into the stereo works really well (my boss has one in his VW Passat).

Would you recommend a Skoda-dealer install or go 3rd party? The dealer I used seemed to hint it would be better to go 3rd party for cost reasons, I will probably get someone to do it for me if I can afford it though I must admit, as you say, very tight wiring fit

I've got a CK3000 like Colin and yes, space is very tight.

If you don't mind hacking the bits of plastic at the back, that'll give you more space to play around with.

I've managed to stash the speaker interface dongle box thingy (Colin will know what I mean) behind and below the rear support for the HU. It's a very snug fit though.

Performance wise, I don't know what the VAG one gives you. With the parrot CK3000, you can connect it up to the stereo "mute" so that if you're listening to music when the phone rings, it cuts the music off.

It's not that difficult to fit (apart from the space problem). The Skoda comes with 8-pin ISO connections so it's a straight plug up exercise.

The Parrot box can rest on top of the glove box, just below the airbag. I fed the cable through for the pickup / drop call through one of the blanking buttons so it's quite neat.

HTH :)

Thanks. I'm up early today (checks sig and wonders why again  ) so will have a search, the main thing I was worried about was hacking around in the car to fit it, so cutting the plastic I wouldn't really wanna do.

I read the post about removing the glove box so I'm prepared to give that a shot :D

I've 'done' my own radio swapping in other cars (non-ISO) and tbh most of them were pretty tight.

A straight plugin should be good, I'm guessing it goes between the 'main' car connector and the radio's one, but no doubt the parrot manual will tell me :)

The mute is definitely required - otherwise it would not be handsfree enough to spend that kinda cash imho - if I end up putting it in I'll take some snaps :)

Went and ordered the 'one above' ie the 3100.

I kinda like the idea of a little display, plus it also allows you to switch 'priority' on the phone(s) so you can 'turn on' a different one for use with the system.

Showing the incoming call on a clear display is definitely needed, as I need to ensure I answer my business calls in a particular way (greeting, name, company, the usual) whereas if it's a private call I can just say hello

I was convinced even more by the integrated system I've seen in a BMW 120 (one of the guys at work bought one). My opinion of the integrated system was that it was very nice too. Having thought about the cradle thing a bit more, I've basically come to the conclusion it doesn't really work in the Furby with the positioning of the 12V socket. I'd have to have a lead running from the socket to the 'air vent location' which even when tucked away would just end up annoying me.

The 3xxx means it will look nice and tidy, be safe and show me the stuff I need to see.

Pleasantly surprised about the cost of it too, just hope I'm gonna be able to fit it now

Thanks again for convincing me :D

Be careful about sticking things in air vents, as the slats can break on their ends. We had an octavia we put into our local dealer for some warranty work, amongst this was an air vent. The vent was not covered.

To do it without cutting i did it this way:

removed glove box and head unit. the main parrot box, ive put just to the left of the head unit... in the part of the centre console between the head unit and glove box... theres plenty of places to tie wrap it to, you may have to experiment as mine is rattling a bit. you should be able to get the other parrot box in behind the head unit. the answer/reject buttons (on the 3000 ive put in the space behind the indicator stalk..) i removed the lower cowling on the drivers side, (about 5-6 torx screws) and fed the answer/reject wire up the side of the steering colulm... i also ran the mic wire under the drivers side, and up the a-pillar... beware, unbeknown to me, the a-pillar trim kinda slides off... i used a bit too much force and pulled it off :( you can just push the wire in the rubber door trim which is quite neat. also i would reccomend putting the mic in the middle of the car, near the rear view mirror, i currently have mine in the corner on the a-pillar, and people complain its very echoey

Cool & thanks for the extra info :D

To avoid the rattling you may be able to put some foam - you know the antistatic foam you get, that kinda thing. Hopefully I can strap the box under with some cable ties as you say

The microphone wire is gonna be a little tricky I must admit. Will have a shot ;)

As for the vents - you're right, they look like they'd get damaged relatively easily. The only catch might be the Bluetooth may not be 100% stable

Will take some snaps - goods should arrive Tuesday I think

Looks pretty slick too :D

The only thing I've found with Nokia is that it doesn't appear to work with anything else - i.e. it will work fine with a Nokia, Symbian-based phone, but with non-Nokia phones I'd definitely want to try-before-buy.

In fairness the same goes for the Parrot I suppose ;) - but it's in their interest to support all brands rather than just their own, which I'd say gives it the edge there.

Both look like good products :)

Looks like the Nokia option is twice the price of the Parrot so I think I'll go for the Parrot! Anyone have any idea how much it is likely to cost to get fitted?

Not sure really - you could ask your dealer, be it the Skoda one or one of those more specialist places. You'll no doubt end up paying a bit more for it though. I'd expect at least a couple of hours labour though, which tends to hurt :(

So does the 3100 allow you to have 2 phones paired and active at the same time? does the ck3000 allow this??

Dont think it's at the same time no :(

As I had to pick up some accessories from the dealer today I asked if they could quote me for fitting it for me - as it comes with all the bits and pieces and stuff it's not too much work, maximum 1.5 hours I was quoted, and that includes a courtesy car for the day as well, not bad. Considering the lack of my time to do it, plus that it's gonna be dealer-fitted & thus not voiding warranty on the Symphony/changed, I'm gonna go for that. I kinda set aside some dosh for this type of thing as my workload is screaming up :(

I can get a Parrot 3100 for around

I bought it for a bit more than that at expansys, and the dealer charges a bit more for the fitting too.

If you already have a non-standard ICE anyway I'd probably go for self-fit or specialist, rather than use the dealer, as it WILL be cheaper. I just couldn't be bothered to do that and I'm able to drop the car off in the morning, get a courtesy vehicle for the day, and pick it up in the evening - for me that's worth a lot as I need to make up time mostly otherwise :)

Expansys were REALLY cheap when I started looking - but their price shot up one day and I queried it with them - they said the original price I'd seen was a DAY offer . It's currently

I ordered from blueunplugged.com on Wednesday night and they had it dispatched first thing Thursday morning. Hasn't arrived yet with it being Easter weekend though - anyone know what way the postal service works over the weekend? No post till Tuesday / Wednesday next week?

Depends what service they've used. If it's weekdays only then it will be Tuesday, otherwise you might get it on Saturday :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Little update - CK3100 itself was fitted very nicely by the dealer in Newbury ;) Good job.

Microphone is near the interior light (top, middle), the display was mounted on a blanking plate (middle of the dash). I've got heated seats, ESP, and Airbag Off indicators plus the rear window heating switch already, but it doesn't cover up the switches and you can still easily see the indicators.

The cable does not cover up the radio either :D

Phone wise - 6230 is working great, my work phone, fully automatic sync every time the phone pairs with it. Good combination.

My new 7610 however is a pain - no automatic sync, and it doesn't always work. When it doesn't it usually starts working again when you power off and back up, but not all the time.

I tend to have both phones paired, and whilst I'm on 'work time' or if I need to make calls to the US (work related) I have it paired up & connected to the work phone.

Both phones are paired. You can switch between them pretty easily via settings, selecting the phone you want and hitting connect on it. It will then switch pretty quickly.

Only catch (not avoidable I don't think) is that ideally you'd want incoming calls to get routed via the kit regardless, but then you'd never be able to manage that in reality

In operation it's good, just gotta make sure to keep the microphone volume up to a decent level as if you drop it too much it will pick up MORE noise ?! Wierd..

Mine was fitted by the dealer as said, and it behaves itself properly in that regard :D

At the Blue Unplugged website the Nokia list of compatible phones is given as 3650 3660 6230 6310/6310i 6600 6650 6680 6810 6820 7600 8910/8910i N-Gage - your 7610 isn't listed...

You got any pics of it fitted? I've got the Nokia CK-7W kit in mine - just curious to see what the Parrott one looks like.
