Horn

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me a part no of a horn that will fit my 03 SDI, preferably one that is loud? Mine sounds like strangled cat and is not audible more than 2 feet from the car.

thats disappointing

i read the title and assumed it was another nigella video.

Stebel Nautilus, You wont be disappointed!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I have two wired up in mine :D A Stebel Nautilus passenger side, and a Nautilus Compact in stock location. Makes the headlights dim :D

is Compact in stock location. Passenger side is bolted to a spare nut welded to the body of the car at the front passenger side in conjunction with a metal bracket I knocked up from some speaker support thingys. I *guess* the nut is where the air con stuff goes on models with air con. The bigger one shown in the video above won't fit in the stock location, at least not on my model. You do have it easy on the Fabia though as no need to wire a relay in if just using the one Nautilus horn. The wiring, fuse, and central electrics module all handle up to 20a which is enough.

Only thing is to me from the inside of the car the higher frequencies the horn produces are not that audible. Not sure if that's just because of the metal and engine etc being in the way. Definitely hear it outside of the car and in tunnels/multi-storey car parks though :D (no I don't make a habit of hitting the horn in those locations though might have once or twice :D ). In some ways a deeper tone like a truck/train would be nicer.

Unfortunately can't seem to convince the GF to take both our cars round Tesco car park to test the horns and video record the results for comparison.

Thanks folks, I've ordered one.

Difference shouldn't be far off this I imagine...

train horn ftw!

Ferry horn :D

I have one off a vrs any good to you?

Ferry horn :D

I like  I want something like that on my pickup.... I guess you must need an air compressor and an air receiver to run it though..

Ive got a range rover horn on my ibiza :) just cut off the old connector and put some spade connectors on and mounted the 2 horns and its done. Sounds much more OEM than stebel nauticus which i dont really rate, sounds like it's taking the p**s rather than saying 'oi'

i have a stiebel fitted but it only replaces one of the twin horns so it sounds like it has 3 tones for approx 1 second then the stiebel kicks in have measued it as 99 decibels approx 1 meter from the front of the car.

I have used it in a car park when someone pulled out on me, their face was an absolute picture, thye looked as tho they needed fresh underware emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I have toyed with the idea of a telephone siren -over 100db ,and very loud off of a pp3 so current drain won't be much

Good one, Now go forth and terrorise!emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Would've thought a lower pitched sound would be more erm.. menacing..? :D

In terms of fitting all thats needed is the wires/system to be rated at 20a and finding a place to fit it..? Is there a noise restriction/law?

Can't speak for the VRS but was easy enough on a 1.4mpi. One fixing point, and no need to wire in a relay as described on the box. Existing wires capable of handling 20a, and if you check the fuse which supplies only the horn circuit you should find a 20 amp in there :)

This could be tempting. If they did a more menacing sounding one lol

TBH tone aside, They're loud enough to scare the bejeezus out of anyone!

I stuck a full size Nautilus in the wifes little yellow caremoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Sweeet!!

Just a thought- does the replacement horn affect the alarm siren or is that a different horn? I have a Fabia 2 and it's just as feeble.

Horn activated by steering wheel will be entirely separate to an alarm siren - unless your alarm siren consists of a beep beep beep as if someone is sat in the car beeping the standard horn.

Stebel do a truck version with a deeper sound http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stebel-Nautilus-Compact-Truck-Car-Air-Horn-12-volt-300Hz-134dB-Deep-1160058-/120816676009?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c213c2ca9 Seems Stebel horns are disappearing from the UK. No longer sold in Halfords (I picked up a few of the bigger ones when Halfords had them at £5 each a few years ago), and less easy to get hold of on ebay etc.

The Stebel Magnum would be fine, although for maximum effect the low tone is probably best combined with the high tone horn, or the existing horn in your car.
