Q,

Your strategy would also rely on finding someone mug enough to take the Symphony off your hands. ;)

:D

Ah yes, I forgot about the security id. Tried yesterday if I could set the HU from 'safe' to 'whatever the other option is ;)', and couldnt cos it wanted a pin number first... Needless to say, that is something I haven't got :(

What you'll probably have is a letter from Skoda UK telling you

that you don't need this PIN as it's sent through the K-wire from

the car's ECU to the unit...

Rob.

Rob, not even that :(

On another thought, it is also possible to hook up and integrate a handsfree set to the HU. Does anyone know what that involves? My thinking is that if you switch on the mp3 player it will send audio on its line outs which triggers the HU in thinking that it received a call and makes the audio from the phone go over the speakers... Could that somehow work?

was thinking the same thing q :D

Depends if it is full phone integration or just an audio mute on the HU?

Looking at the pin diagrams on Dean's site, it would appear it is possible to do a fully integrated

phone handsfree...

Rob.

Rob,

Sorry, just lazy - do you have a URL for that??

Cheers,

Howard

Rob, how do you make that up? Looking at the pins it don't mean diddly squat to me :(

If you look at the bits underneath (which is actually Skoda specific), it explains a bit more.

"pin 7 is the +ve feed from th h/free kit's audio out and 12 is the -ve feed

from the h/free audio"...this is on the top connector, BTW.

They're listed as "open" on the VW scan at the top...

Rob.

So could it be that by putting the red wire from audio left&right to pin 7 and the black wire from audio l&r we are on to a winner?

Just guessing :D

Q.

Reading the diagram and the attached text would imply that it is a mono input then. Which makes sense really, as mobile phones are mono.

I guess the reason Ian was having difficulty was that the Clock signal for the changer was not being generated/recognised. The HU must look for that before accepting input on those channels.

The only other way I could see of doing this would be to splice the MP3 player into the wiring from the changer with some sort of audio switch to flick between the MP3 player and the changer. In this case, the HU would always see the changer but would be receiving the audio from the MP3 player instead.

Who's feeling brave then???

Howard

Hmm...if it recognised the CD changer, it would want to play CDs...so you might get quite

some interference!

Rob.

It should be possible to get a switch that accepts RCA plugs for L + R, and switch between them either electrically or mechanically. Output from switch goes to back of HU. Existing L + R from changer goes into input 1 and MP3 player L + R goes into input 2. When Input 2 selected, the output from the CD changer would just disppear into the ether. I guess as long as the HU thought it was playing the CDs it would just go round and round and round and round...

Make sense to anyone other than me??

Howard

Yes, Howard, Ian is trying to do this in lack of the AUX-IN adapter. Don't know how far he has progressed yet.
