On-board Mp3 In Second Din Slot ???

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if you can wire in a seperate MP3/CD player in the lower din slot - and still use the factory set-up ????

Has anyone done it ?....and if so what equiptment etc

I have loads & loads of CD's - but usually end up listening to the same six for months becuase I can't be bothered to change,so an MP3 would be grate...... :D :D

Ian (Tavia4x4) is, I believe, looking at doing something like this with an M-station.

Inputs seem to be a bit of an issue though - I'm sure the man himself will willing to

tell more... :D

Rob.

I just took delivery of a mStation today, so look out for a thread soon which will detail the installation with loads of pictures.

Q.

Got mine working over the weekend, input is currently a little "heath robinson" in that it's using a tape adapter hacked and rewired with RCA leads...

The "aux in" cable for our symphony head unit is not "seen" by the unit, so will not switch to it, looking at combining the aux in and CD changed cables, with audio switching, but I won't say anymore till I have that working. :D

Ian, it might just be a case of getting the aux in enabled using a vag-com or vag diagnostic tool. Thats what the K wire is for.

ooh, never thought of that...

Good thinking!

(off to annoy my service manager!)

Left msg with them to find out and call me back, will keep you posted...

Could it be the solution? That would be just sooooo obvious :D

Initial response

"it should be enabled by default, we think...... but there is a fuse on the K wire, we think... can I go check and come back to you?"

:D Where's big K, he should be able to find out?

wot exactly do u want me to find out ian ?

If the aux-in on the Symphony head-unit needs to be enabled by the VAG-COM tool?

been looking in book doesn't mention anything about aux-in where exactly are you getting aux in from ie whick pin no at rear of unit (that will maybee give me clue to try and solve ya problem).

Ian, over to you :D

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/auxin.asp

I have this cable, it's the same plug as the cd changer, but just using the R \ L \ ground pins...

However, with the cd changer unplugged, the head unit will not switch to an "aux" or "cd" channel - which is what we want it to do.

Looking at the lead description, did you read the last line

This lead is not suitable for use with VW Beta / Gamma / Chorus factory-fitted radios. It will plug in, but not be recognised by the radio.

Perhaps that has something to do with it, in which case you will need to do some jiggery pokery to have the changer present.

so do i take it then that you disconnect cd changer replace with this cable and switch unit on then you have to press changer button on head unit but head unit displayes "no changer" ?

btw do grundig do a cable like this ?

Yup, but a) did not mention symphony and B) I'm quite prepared to *make it work* :D

ian can you pm me exactly what you have done and if you have vag-com (which i think you do) give me the coding number on the radio). i take it that you have all the other wires plugged in switched on (on mp3 player or whatever you trying to fit).

PM sent :D

I found another site doing an AUX-IN adapter: http://www.icd-ltd.com/main.html and send them an email:

I'm trying to find out where to buy the SKO-AUX Skoda Auxillary Input Interface as listed on your website. I am based in the UK. Do you have a list of distributors I can contact?

to which I just received a reply:

Hello Quinten,

Thanks for your enquiry.

We can supply the auxiliary interface direct if that's easier?

Unfortunately we don't have one available from stock - they are currently on back order. We are expecting a delivery of them around late August.

I don't think you will source this part from our distributors as this is the first time we have stocked this particular interface.

Cost price on this interface is

I do remember having read up on Ian's Mstation quite extensively, but I can't remember having been directed to its manufacturer's web pages. Don't even know who makes these things...

I'll stick with my MP3-capable HU for a while but this is still a viable option in, say, a year's time.

Second DIN slot sounds like a good place but don't mind if it has to go in the boot.

So there you have it, bl**dy expensive these things... I might even consider buying a new HU and sell the Symphony and CD-Changer, just to fit the mStation :(

Unfortunately the Symphony won't work in any other car, unless

the buyer has a friendly dealer who is willing to reprogramme the

unit to accept their own car's security ID.

However, even if you buy the cheapest HU you can with an aux

in, it'll sound better than standard, and probably not all that much

more than

My Blaupunkt plays MP3s via an MMC card but these are limited to 128Mbytes.

Still thinking about getting the 1Gbyte microdrive......80hours worth of music.....enough for most people!

Ah yes, I forgot about the security id. Tried yesterday if I could set the HU from 'safe' to 'whatever the other option is ;)', and couldnt cos it wanted a pin number first... Needless to say, that is something I haven't got :(
