ok so my clocks have always been faulty, i.e. no buzzers. flickering seat tilt light. no fuel warning buzzer.

so i decided to take the punt yesterday to unsolder and resolder on white leds. all went well till a bridging terminal broke, unrepairable to my skills, so its gonna be a new set of clocks, i did this knowing the likely cost and tbh ive always wanted the clocks to work properly so this was my "chance" if things went t*ts up.

heres the dilema. my part number on mine is 6y0 920 971 S from skoda this will be £400+

from ebay there is a brand new set £85 but the part number is 6y0 920 970 S is mine just a superseeded set? are these likely to work?

i think yes as i dont think anything like the ECU changed between 03-04 models going into mine which is 05

but im asking as i dont want to buy the ebay set and they dont work

yeh but the number on mine could just be a superseeded set and still work, i know there for a 2004 cause thats when the 970 would have been installed but it doesnt make them completely useless, and mines isnt 05-08, there was a couple other superseeded sets from mine finishing 973 etc

Are you not going to have to remove the immobiliser from the clocks?

im not 100% i dont think so it its a new set tbh

Can you not repair the broken terminal with some bare wire and solder?

Hi,

The e bay clocks where never superceeded to your part number, that doesn't say they wont work, but it would be gamble.

If you forward me your e mail address I will send you the parts listing and drawings for both part numbers.

Tony

Somewhat simplistic reply - but I thought revised parts had a different letter afterwards not a different number.

I've found a parts listing which shows many variants:

Tahir I believe used clocks cant be re-codes

The one your looking at on e bay seems to be new and boxed, coding a used one if the imoboliser is in the instrument cluster you may need the original key code to program it, but no problem with a new unit.

iirc when the facelift fabias came out some symbols in the clocks changed slightly think this is why there will be a different part number for the two clocks. i know the asr/esp light defo changed symbols after the facelift came out, as for anything else i wudnt be able to say.

not really any help but its the only difference i could think of lol

There are differences between my facelift 2004 vRS and my current 2007 vRS in that symbol - so the change might have been later - possibly BLT engine change related?

EDIT - of course it might have changed more than once...

Yes, they can. You just need a man with the correct tools. Give Ben Wardle a ring at Shark Performance.

You need a dash cluster that matches your car though. The first thing that separates the clusters is whether the car has ABS or not. Then there is whether it has the MFD or not. Then there is Maxidot. Within those groups you then have clock or tachometer, diesel or petrol etc. etc. And even when you think you have the right one, you then need the matching CAN parts.

As I say, give Ben a ring and he'll talk you through it all. Expect to pay as much for installation as a used Dashpod though. If you buy a new one, it's an hour's labour at the dealer.

ok so even if they can be recoded what about the milage, can tht be recoded?

I've been told it can only be changed up, never down... But I dunno fore sure.

  • Author

not taking the chance ordered from skoda today got trade price of £302 and i will be £25 for coding from skoda

If the clocks are new you can set the mileage up with vcds, but you only get one go at it.

For £25 I would rather let skoda do it just to be safe

I've had my guy come out for me to code keys to all my cars when there had immobiliser or blown clock problems! There no problem to him at all!

There is a guy out there who could correct mileage, cuz when I was young I used to look at salvage cars in the back of the trader and I use to see mileage correction lmao!

Hope this helps
