Track My Skoda

Basically - no - only for cars ordered by one particular supplier - unless things have changed since I was caught trying to get it to work. Though it does say to contact your local dealer for order number - so perhaps it might work now ??? We have nearly all been caught with that one during our long waits. I see you may be visiting Telfords in the not too distant future !!

Hi Yetiflute,

I do hope it's in the near future - I asked Telfords if they could fit a tow bar for me. I was told that they give it to someone local to do who don't use the Skoda prepped electrics - what a waste of money my towbar prep woukd be! When I asked about coding after the tow bar was fitted I got the distinct impression that maybe they were totally unaware that the auto-safety aspects of the vehicle take into consideration a trailor whrn the trailor electrics are plugged in. I am now desperately looking for a local tow bar fitter who know what they're doing. :smirk:

Simonshiel, a local VCDS member, says he might be able to tweak a few bits for me - I'm also lining up to get yellow fog light bulbs and put LED bulbs in the DRLs - Can't wait!

Hope its not working, enetered my number and....

Thank you for your enquiry - Your order is currently awaiting a manufacturing build date.

I'm supposed to be collecting the car on Saturday!!!:o

Just checked and mine says the same. I have been driving mine for a month!

Yeah, mine also says the same, but I've had it on good advice that it is currently working its way from the Czech Republic to Emden!

Definitely not what I was told last week and as I said I'll need a towbar sooner rather than later

Just phoned Plyline North West (WIgton) reference a Westfalia removable towbar and single socket, thye quoted me £375 + VAT. They reckon they wouldn't use the factory fitted electrics and that their multiplex connector negates the need to 'code' afterwards for the system to recognise the trailer is attached - not sure on that one - may need reassurance from other more informed Forum members

They are talking through their bottoms!

You have to recode the ECU and tell it what has been connected; it is not the "connection" that does that! The recoding doesn't just alter what is shown on the dash, but also "extends" the alarm system, deactivates the rear parking sensors and fog lights, and introduces a basic trailer stability control system.

Recoding.

Think about it this way:

If you decide that you want your home computer to do something new, such as a specialist task, you have to give it a programme to do that task. So you add a new programme from a disc/download. It won't do it automatically.

Well your car is that home computer, so you have to tell it's internal computer you want it to do something different, and for that you have to reprogramme it.

Simple really, isn't it?

Now why didn't you say that before - that explanation works for me!:giggle:

Because I only thought of it after writing that epistle to you!! :giggle: :giggle: :'(

Here's a laugh I thought I'd share with you:

Phoned my local Skoda dealer (who also deals with all sorts of 4wd vehicles and more local than the one I ordered the car from) and asked if they would fit a Westfalia detachable tow bar using the factory prepped electrics.

Reply - we don't nornally fit the tow bar the salesman arranges it!!

I'm finding it nigh on impossible to arrange getting a tow bar fitted using the factory prepped electrics - I'm almost half glad it's been stuck in Emden since the 1st of December!

I find it amazing that when you are sitting at the lovely sales lady's desk ordering the car, that when you select the tow bar prep option she does not respond with an intelligent informed offer to fit a towbar for you. Obviously not !!!

Yetiflute - your absolutely right - that would've made sense to promote more trade for the Dealership

Anyway...... flipping amazing - I've gone full circle!!

Went up to Carlisle to watch my son going for a ride in a helicopter today which they let him pilot for a fair bit of the time - he had a whale of a time, highly recommend it.

We then paid a visit to the dealership where we previously ordered the car. A technician then informed us as long as it was the Skoda Detachable tow bar then everything would be done 'in house' and they would use the factory prepped electrics. He added recoding to include maxidot trailer icon and disabling sensors would not be a problem. Why couldn't I just be told this in the first flipping place?? And still the sodding car chills out at Emden Docks for a ninth day :wonder:!

I beginning to wonder whether Skoda have issued a bulletin about the recoding issue, following the number of complaints here, and the fact that they have admitted they monitor this forum.

Alternatively I found the same dealership involved did not seem able to communicate between departments.

Maybe most car dealerships salespeople are no longer enthusiasts keen on learning about and understanding all the technical details etc of the cars they sell. They probably see their job as purely a sales job and think that most of the time the technical stuff can be left to the workshop.

Okay I like to know the technical ins & outs of most things I buy - especially when they cost £20k ; I dont expect to have to get it from forums and explain to the salesperson that "towbar prep" isnt just an extra electrical socket but includes larger cooling fans.

They should be using all this data to actually sell me the towbar prep option !

I think you have just hit the nail on the head!

Car SALES people!

Some might be interested and realise that knowledge may equal extra sales, but a lot just seem to look at numbers.
