DSG advice needed

Featured Replies

Tech1e (Skoda God) seems unusually quiet about this issue. Does he know something and is he holding back?

Even if he did he I would have thought he's not allowed to say. Confidentiality and all that. Bet there's loads of stuff we don't see or know when cars go into workshops that's just how it is. I've heard stories from a certain four ringed dealership that would make you cringe

This could make your Christmas

I have had a DSG update this week and the car is transformed. The delays and hesitations at roundabouts etc have virtually gone and I find I am hardly using the Manual mode anymore (except going up and down hills)

My car was built 8/2010 and has now done 22k. Maybe later cars have this update already which is why some of us complain of Hesitations and some do not.

The car actually went in as my EPC light came on a couple of times. This was fixed by fitting an additional shim to a valve on the Turbo. They also did a software update for a potential cold running unevenness which I hadnt experienced.

The Service bulletins or TPIs are

EPC fault 2025569/3

Cold running 2025583/4

DSG 2027607/1

glad its working nice now

mine is an early car though, and the only update done is the ECU for misfire (I just had a bit of rough running when cold, no issues or warning lights, they updated as a matter of course at the service..) and I have never had hesitancy...

Hi SJRT, how is the DSG update performing? It is a lot better now you've had a few more miles to assess?

It is still a vast improvement and is now more like a conventional auto.

The engine seems smoother as well so it may be the combination of engine and DSG updates that has made the difference.

I was seriously considering selling the car previously but am not now.

I have just filled up and am still getting 48-50 mpg (real world not trip computer figs) and performance is still the same so there dont appear to be any downsides

In short I am one happy driver

again, no delay here (and learners use my car, 3 point turns ect are par for the course) I understand some people have had it (like auric, but when in mine there is no delay.... Phil drove mine recently and confirmed its instant reactions, I even put a vid up on here!

I cannot explain why some have a delay... really, i cant, assuming the gearboxes/software are the same, I wold have to see the driver using it to comment ...

Yup Can definitely confirm that.

Was pretty much like driving a normal auto box. Take your foot off the brake and it starts creeping forward. Also when setting off from junctions it seemed to just go straight away with no hesitation.

The only time I had a problem is when I confused it... I changed down but it was too clever and had already changed down to got first... was a bit "jerky" lol.

Apart from that... silky smooth and most impressed!

Phil

Mine is still perfect and definitely has a Jekyll and Hyde personality that switches in an instant. Pootle about in 5th or 6th quite happily but then need to overtake, just bury the throttle and click the switch, wait for it to coil like a spring and your'e off. Slingshot acceleration

Or as I found with roundabouts - go from D to S and you've no problems with what gear! It beats waiting for it to change down and you are in the power band.
