At 4C there is the risk of ice forming, or still being present. Not something you want to disable.

Blow torch in front of the temp sensor in the bumper?

Thanks for that. I thought it was there to remind me to go and get a coat.....................................dotdotdot

So I ask againnnnnn

 Yeah, because the fact my balls are frozen solid, my face is like ice and I`v just scrapped all the ice off the windscreen isn't enough of a warning. Jesus Christ I wonder sometimes :dull:

Fine 1st thing in the morning, but what if say mid afternoon you're driving your nice warmed up car and the temp drops to, or below 4C. How would you know otherwise?

Having checked on a few sites, seems the 4C chime isnt something code-able with VCDS.

Do you just get a beep? I get a lovely little "ICE" message where my MPG is supposed to be, if I remember correctly...annoying considering I drive on instant MPG...but I'm not going to switch it off - it is nice to know that there might be ice.

Yup, because I often walk out my house and its nice 35c heat then half way down the M1 oh, bob`s your uncle its 3 degrees. Dont be ridiculous, yes its handy to have for retarded people, but if you walk out your house and forget its quite chilly after a bit of driving you really shouldnt be allowed behind the wheel.

Plenty of cars on the road do not have any kind of temperature gauge for the outside, so I think your initial response is a bit OTT really.

Agreed 100%

Plus, any corner you go round could have oil/diesel all over the floor or whatever (it's happened to me many times on a bike), no warning on your dash for stuff like that

4 degrees is the least of my worries

plus last year it was like under 4 degrees for a month straight, i clearly knew it was under 4 degrees when there's snow everywhere but still theres a beep everytime i turn my car on. its so annoying.

Is yours a loud beep then?

Mine is a subtle bong and not really annoying at all.

Yeah and it only bongs once?

It's not the beep/bong that's annoying, it's the fact that whatever your keeping an eye on (mpg, time, miles till empty etc) disappears and doesn't come back on. You got to switch it back to what you were looking at.

the mood is tense tonight

Why not just put up with it

Early cars had a much harsher loud *beeeeeeeeep* noise compare to newer ones which had a much softer *bong*, its pretty annoying tbf I can understand why someone would want to see if it were possible to get rid of it.

Yea, it is tense. Must be the cold.

Hmm, mine is a Sept 03 so is one of the earlier ones, yet is a soft bong.

Can't be as loud as the low fuel beep though. That one makes me jump, the ******.

Very strange, mine is a 53 and has the loud one, and a mates 54 plate has the loud one too, which "ASR" icon do you have? Triangle or Car on a wiggly road?

Its the same noise.

Triangle symbol I think.

If you really want you could always just remove the buzzer from the dash?

the sensor is inside the left front fog cover. I wonder what happens if you unplug it? Or wrap a load of tape round it??

I have the loud beep for the fuel and window washers. Makes me jump like anything when that goes off! I think it's something catastrophic gone wrong!! The 4 degree bong is a bit of a pain. I was driving home the other night and where the temp was changing from 7 to 2.5 it must have beeped 5 times at me! I knew it was cold cos I could see my breath when I was outside!

Unplug the sensor?

It can be removed and accessed without removing the bumper.

Just push the 3 prong retainer thingies in a bit and pop it out.

Then simply unplug. Can't see why it wouldn't work.

do you not think that i may have considered that option prior to making the thread?

if i wanted to put up with it i clearly wouldn't have made the thread...

what is it with this forum?

if someone asks how to fit HID's, he's told that HID's are illegal. if the OP wanted to know if they were illegal or not he would have asked. but he didn't, he asked how to fit them

same applies here

i didnt want to discuss it or i would have done, i just want to know whether or not its possible in any way to disable the beeping, because i personally find it annoying. if you hadn't noticed different things annoy different people. for me personally, when it comes on i always look at the dash even if i know what it is. then you can bet your right arm that the passenger will ask what it is and you have to explain, every single time it happens

i dont even know why i have to explain why it annoys me... if it doesn't bother you then move to another thread. the people i have spoken to with vRS's find it annoying, including 3 members on here.

Yeah, if some are really loud and some are just a subtle bong, why can't you change it to the other speaker? Failing that, rip the speaker out entirely.

Hmm, this one annoys me too. I'd like the temp noise and notification gone but oil/engine/diesel/washer fluid all left working. I may remove the temp sensor later when its cold and see what happens.
