4c beeping

Featured Replies

If you rip out the sensor as per others ideas it might cause other error mesagers....can't see why VCDS can't disable ...eg make it "mute" and still retain function (unless is is part of the hardwired safety block type thingy)....I recon that there is one multitone speaker/buzzer which does all the dash noises.....if there was two then muffle the one for the temp (ice) warning........

I too get annoyed with all the bloody noises/flashing lights etc.....lights are ok as I always look down at the dash every minute to check speed etc...(quick glance).......I just put with the noises (dash squeek is louder.... :giggle: ....)......THE ONLY ONE I want to #####ing mute is the low fuel gauge!!!.....that scared the ####ing carp out of me it's that loud!!!

For the record, mine's an 05 plate and has the really harsh electronic "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP" that sounds like a 10p RS buzzer. Does it on low fuel, low washer fluid, and presumably low temp (although I've only had it down to 3.5 and it doesn't beep until 3 IIRC so I've never heard it). My bosses car has the "bong" which is much more pleasant on the ears.

I get a nice subtle bong noise and its ideal for me as I drive once a week out to the country side which can be -4 difference over where I live in town. :)

Yes it can be disabled. .

.....ooooooooooo.....HOW????????

Also can the low fuel alarm be muted??????..and if so HOW?????....I have a basic-ish VCDS so what codes/groups???

If you change the value at which it beeps then you can keep

the thermometer feature? Maybe if you get it to bong at -5

then it won't do it so often?

Has anyone tried unplugging it yet?

I'm some distance from my car so I can't try.

If you unplug the sensor, it just gives you a reading like this in the car - -. One way of stopping it for sure! Just been out and tried it.

Id like to know how as its not a feature that can be "changed" using vcds as ive looked today. Unless of course its a long coding change?

I don't think any of the Fabia I modules use long coding do they? That's more of a thing on the newer CANBUS cars?

no idea :S

Yeah, if some are really loud and some are just a subtle bong, why can't you change it to the other speaker? Failing that, rip the speaker out entirely.

Doubt that'll work. I'd imagine the beeeep ones are a piezo (sp?) style speaker, and I'd guess that the new ones aren't to produce the type of noise they do, so I'd assume the out puts to the speakers to be incompatible?

That might be complete rubbish, but seems reasonable to me. . .

I've been out and had a look, It's not looking good unfortunately!

No long coding on the Fabia, It's all soft coding, Couldn't find anything relating to adaptation of audible warnings!

Not only does it beep if the temperature drops to 4oC but it also beeps if the temperature rises to -4oC. As others have said, at least it's not as loud as the low fuel warning!

gr666 - If you get it to bong at -5 it will bong more often. You would need to set it to bong at like -1 which would be less often.

Bonggggg

gr666 - If you get it to bong at -5 it will bong more often. You would need to set it to bong at like -1 which would be less often.

To be honest it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I don't mind what noise it makes and find it a useful feature

sometimes particularly if you set off somewhere and it gets much colder

during the journey.

I was just making a suggestion to those who it winds up.

Surely not? It`ll get as cold as -1 more often then -5 wouldnt it? :wonder:

Maybe the thinking was that it will stay below -1 for longer than it would -5, so the changes between the two wouldn't set it off?

I.e. if it sits at around -2 to -6, the changes will trigger a bong, but it will always be below -1, so will only go off once?

Kinda irrelevant if Mike says it can't be changed though!

I am baffled why someone would not want to be informed that the roads could be icy ahead :wonder: I assume these people only drive a handful of miles at a time?

Personally I will keep all of the driver aids active,

would you really disconnect the ABS just because 99% of the time it never kicks in? they are there for the 1% of 'oh f**k' moments.

Once you have all of the available information about the road conditions available to you then it is up to you what you do with that info, but to totally ignore it (or choose not to have the info) is pretty foolish IMO.

The only way to disable it is to physically disconnect the sensor and Fabia's are not CANBUS therefore have no longcoding.

Because I know whether it's cold or not... It also alerts you it's 4 degrees even if it's snowing outside with ice everywhere... It's annoying and most cars on the road don't have this feature, so I'm sure I'll be OK... As I said, it doesn't notify me when there's an oil spill on the road and I find that more concerning when I'm flat out in the dry.

I'd be surprised if this system will tolerate you changing the warning temperature levels, there is a good reason why these warning levels have been chosen and it due to the higher one being the point where there is a higher skid risk due to any water or moisture starting to change from "wet" water to "sort of slippy stuff" - and the same for the lower level warning which warns you that there is an increasing risk of the frozen ice reducing it level of grip and turning into "slippy stuff" as the temperature rises.

Personally, I take this warning as a "wise up it is now nasty" reality check and take a bit more care, saves a brown trouser moment when the car's dynamics go all strange. Most of us probably still get a "wake up" call now and again.

I first had a car with this back in 1991 - so its not new and I hear that an increasing number of cars have it fitted now, I suppose this ties in with digital displays and A/C which needs to know the external temperature.

Now the service due warning, especially when you have serviced it and have not quite got round to resetting it, on the B5 Passat that is very very annoying!

Can I disable my speedo?

Its annoying

All cars I've driven have had a 4C warning. Most cars from the last 7 years will.

You asked a question and people have told you why it's there. If you choose to ignore it and know best, then so be it.

Right, that's it:- my boot lid does open as far in winter and I bang my head on it - Can I delete it?

Can I unplug my fuel gauge? I know how far I've driven, so wont run out.
