Tyres for 1.4TSI

Featured Replies

I need two new front tyres for my 1.4TSI hatch, but just wondered if I need the same make tyre on the front and back? Current tyres are Bridgeston ER300's that came with the car, but these are about 15 quid more per tyre than getting Dunlop's or Pirelli's. I don't do a massive mileage so don't really want to spend £30 more than I need to if it doesn't matter having a mixture of makes.

Thanks.

Doesn't make a lot of difference. If they are decent brands front and back should be fine.

There are no real hard and fast rules on tyres.

Legally all 4 tyres can be different so long as they are all legal.

Personally as long as both tyres on a single axle are the same then I'm happy.

My Octy came with Continental SC2's on back in March this year.

When the front's need replacing I'll move my rear tyres to the front and then put 2 new Continental SC5's on the rear - same make, but different model.

try Uniroyal or Barum good tyres at sensible prices made by Conti'

Yes doesn't make too much difference, after a puncture in the sidewall meaning I had to have a new tyre I have a Michelin on one side and an Avon on the other at the back of my car, when I come to replace I will seriously consider all weather tyres as a compromise between summer and winter tyres.

Thanks for the info guys. I will look at the Continentals. I always had Pirelli's in the past and found them to be fine so might look at those as an option as well.

Other than the law which states both tyres on an axle must be the same size, loading, speed rating etc......

I thought that would go without saying.

Here in portugal you must have the same type of tires on either front or rear axle.

Out of interest, how many miles did you get out of your front tyres? I assume you are changing at tread depth c. 3mm? On my 1.4TSI Estate I have Good Year tyres and at 12000 miles the fronts are still at 5/6 mm.
