Featured Replies

Excellent write up and very informative Thank you for taking the time to post it. I for one find it very helpful.

Bugger

I see as usual im too late for the group buy.

Following the links you have posted BossFox on the blackVue website that dont list the 400 version as being avaiable for sale. Where did you buy them from?

  • I'll start the group buy when I've got firm pricing info on Monday.

  • Saw the DOD in Fubars car, it is actually smaller than the BV 400 HD.

  • To be fair you are giving instructions based on a unit you bought from Korea to someone who has bought a unit in the UK. You don't have to download anything from the internet first in my experience.Y

Got my Blackvue HD this morning direct from Korea. They placed a $60 value on it for customs so I paid very little import duty on it. They even sent three teabags to calm my nerves whilst opening it.

I´m surprised that it´s so small. Must remember to carry the Instruction Book in the car, especially in France where the Gendarmes go ape on anything that could be a radar detector. Confiscation and an on the spot fine is the norm. The onus is on you to prove what it is.

I´m not so happy with the amount of heat it generates. It was very warm even after a 10 minute drive.

Anyone????

Can anyone recommend a place to buy the Blackvue DR400HD please?

Sorry, I was not following this thread, just noticed it pop up to the top.

I got them from here: http://www.incarcame...ue_DR400_HD.php

Thank you Boss. As always you are the man in the know. Thats the site ive been looking at but a personal recommendation is always appreciated.

Can I also ask. Is it possible to switch off sound and speed in the settings?

  • Author

Not sure about sound, but you can delete it off the clip manually before you post it on Youtube.

Yes, you can set it to not show the speed on the screen. (and toggle kph/mph)

It will still be visable, but only if you play the recording through the dedicated viewer software that the Blackvue comes with.

If you just play the recording on a regular media player it doesn't show.

Perfect. Thanks for the confirmation.

Can I also ask how people have installed the camera?

Have you just run the cigar lightr cable or has anyone hard wired the cable?

If hard wired have you got a manual switch?

Does it cause any battery drain issues? (especially if left for more than a week)

Thanks in advance

Sorry another question.

I noticed its got an AV out. Does anyone know if I could get this to playback on my columbus?

Personally I've got no idea on that.

I have two of these - well, a HD in the front, and an SD unit in the rear.

I have wired mine to a triple-adaptor, but a one with a switch on the plug, which makes it nice and easy to turn on and off.

Al.

The AV out works on anything that accepts AV in. With the right adapter that is. I've had mine run for 3 night and 2 days with no battery issue's.

Thanks for the replies.

Just a brief update...

It looks like the people behind the GoPro have a new cheaper unit out called the Action Pro.

As well as being cheaper it's got a number of improvments over the GoPro 1 and 2, which are very good.

It has the same chip as the GoPro 2 and comes with a backpack that includes a screen (which was an extra on the GoPro for around £50).

Also you don't need to pay extra for mounting kits, there is a decent range in the box that have the "sticky foot" design.

Mine arrived yesterday, testing starts shortly... :)

Yes, that's the one.

Is it just me or does a web site called "dog cam sport" make you wonder just what clientele they are aiming at?

I was just about to order a Blackvue when I saw this thread. Now watching with interest although I guess things change so quickly there's probably never a right time and one just has to bite the bullet and jump.

Gaz

I have got one from them:

Not the II version but the former 400. Paid 181 dollars and they sent it as a gift to my address in Holland.

No probs with customs, so had it for about 155 euros incl postage.

For the version II the english version is still not available, but they are working on it.

Tempted to buy a second (version II) one.

I'm a bit concerned about ordering from Korea and then having to pay customs charges. I'm thinking i might just pay full price and get next day delivery, even though it's going to cost about £265.00.

That is right, I took the risk and was happily surprised. But it can be totally different if I am going to order a second one.

Customs was also the reason I had it sent to Holland (mother lives there) and not Germany (where I live) :giggle:

The UK like to slap as many charges, etc onto things as they can, especially items shipped from abroad!! :D

Hopefully if i order today, i'll get it before Combe this weekend. B)

I've ordered from this place, which i thought was direct from Blackvue until i checked afterwards and it isn't. I hope i actually receive my camera!! :(

Don't worry, they are a UK official importer. So it pretty much is direct unless you buy from abroad.

That's where the 80-odd units for the Briskoda group buy I organised came from.

They all arrived and any warranty issues have been resolved.
