Skoda octavia indicators problem

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to this forum and I just bought a SKODA OCTAVIA LX 1,6 2000 model. It is my first car so I don't know much about cars. I have gotten a problem with indicators. It does not blink but when I switch on they always remain on. Kindly can any one tell me in detail how to fix it. Where can I get a guide about it. I saw some answers but I am unable to understand how to fix it.

Do they not automatically turn off when the steering wheel is turned left & right? Can you hear a CLICK CLICK CLICK sound from the steering wheel whilst turning and indicating?

Thanks for a quick reply. They automatically turn off but i don't get click click sound.

The hazard switch on the centre of the dash is both a switch and a relay which wears out. Sounds like yours has and you need a new switch/relay

When you indicate do they fash , if so then not faulty, your car has the Scandanavian option on ( Ticked on vcds) NickP has it sett on his, so remain lit all the time

Actually it was flashing earlier and working perfectly. Suddenly it stopped working. Now it flash only once or twice and some time even does not. How to change this hazard light.

the switch that needs replacing is the one between the front vents, it just pulls out. Get a replacement from a dealer and swap over and push back in.

Hi Thanks for your reply. Can you send me a pic of this Switch that needs to be replaced. Also how to replace it?

The relay for the indicators is part of the hazard warning light switch, which as mentioned earlier is between the centre dash vents.

Using a small screwdriver and some cardboard (to prevent damage to the dash plastic) and gently pry it out. Obtain a replacement unit from your dealer and fit. Otherwise you could see if you could try and fix it....

Check that all the bulbs light up. Failed bulbs often affect the working of the indicator circuits. Replace any failed bulbs, or if they all seem to have failed, replace the fuse. The fusebox is in the right-hand end of the dashboard. If you need more details on how to change light bulbs or fuses, look in the owner's manual. You'll have eiter a hard copy of that, or can download an English language PDF by looking in the "Octavia Tour manuals" sticky thread at the top of page 1 of the forum.

If they do, then change the relay as described in post #9. It's obvious how to do it when you've got the dashboard in front of you now that you know where the faulty comonent is.
