Two Questions on 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi All, I've got a slightly jerky ride when in 3rd or higher at reasonably low revs, ive disconnected the MAF and it seems better are these common on the 1.9 TDI??

And can someone tell me the timing belt interval on these engines? late 2001 on a 51 plate

Thanks

Steve

Apologies schoolboy error should also mention that it chucks out alot of smoke when accelerating even at low revs which may or may not be connected but thought i should post it up here incase someone has had the same fault before.

Usually if it runs better with the Maf disconnected then that's the problem.

Cheers Raf, it does seem better obivously no power when disconnected, just wondered if these are common on these engines as with other makes

thanks

steve

belt interval is every 60k/4 years (iirc on the years side).

Bosch MAFs are worth considering, otherwise a dealer. Stay away from super-cheap stuff on ebay....

Cheers mate, at least ive got a few thousand left before its due then.

Sound advice i'll look for a decent replacement, i'm sure its the MAF thats causing it

thanks mbames

Every make with a maf will have it fail at one point, its almost a consumable part lol

The service book says every 80k but there's been advice come out for them to be changed every 60k or 4 years.

some service books even say every 100k but I wouldn't be waiting that long!

I think they started off at 100k, and got revised down to 80k, and then finally 60k....

Thanks for the posts on the timing belt and yes i will not be leaving it 100k between changes!! :)

As for the MAF, i will do some other checks before condeming it, just incase theres a split hose etc so i get it right first time, don't wanna be buying parts at this time of year anyway let alone if i don't need them!!

Cheers

I got a sticker in my book from the dealer covering up the 80k with 60k, must have been a reason..... Mine was a 98 though.
