PD160 Intake

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has already been asked. I'm currently running a Stage 1 remap, a stainless steel exhaust and a K&N panel air filter. Has fitting the PD160 made any noticeable differences to your cars?

Its the next mod I plan on doing and just wanted to hear your opinions, Seat seemed to think it was a good idea :)

Cheers

Nope :) let that £80+ continue to burn a hole in your pocket as it is such a waste of money

No mate. Waste of coin.

You're letting more air in anyway with the k&n, if that's what you wanted, even though diesels run excess air anyway with standard filter.

Ahhhhh the age old "PD160" debate.

If it was pointless it wouldnt exist, VW wouldnt splash the doller making it if it wasnt needed on the Ibiza Cupra TDi, they would have just put the PD130 intake on. However, I think if your just having a mild remap, you`ll not know the difference except in extreme circumstances, track day, hot hot weather, humidity etc etc etc. So I`d say not worth bothering unless your planning to go past 200bhp. One point worth remembering, IF you do pick one up, wait around for a used one, then you`ll get your money back if/when you sell up.

All IMO of course.

If you only drive the UK, you can put a PD130 intake on a standard Ibiza Cupra PD160! see the last page of http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/53097-pd160-intake-pipe-the-definitive-thread

From that thread (the "final word" so to speak")

Absolutely, at 160HP you would be in the same boat as the Ibiza Cupra owner. In extreme conditions, you would notice a small difference but in the UK you would be fine.

At higher powers, you would certainly notice a small difference in the UK at 175+HP and a more significant difference in extreme conditions.

I`v had this discussion with you once before, as above with you agreeing with what I have said in my last post, lets not do it all again :giggle:

for stage 1 i wudnt even bother with it, and wait for a second hand 1 to pop up

Waaaaay back in the good old' days these were £35 and it was a no-brainer to fit one with a stage 1 remap because if it could help at all, it was cheap to do. But at £85 or whatever they are now, it's not really value for money.

I paid £50 for mine.

Expensive? Well yes, for a bit of plastic, but I will always get my money back if I ever decide to sell it.

Be cheaper to make one.

I bought one back in the day for £30. Sold it for £30 just before the price rise. :(

Save your money. And also get rid of the K&N, they let too much crap into your engine.

I got mine with a k&n for £50. sold the air filter for £20. So £30 for it wasn't bad but you won't feel a bit of difference.

Basic engine tuning, more fuel + more Air = power, but isnt always the case. As i see it the pd130 intake is a bit of a bottle neck, fine for normal driving but slam your big clumbsey stomper on the gas pedal because your late for work........ again :( then the engine demands a massive gulp of air, so having a bigger intake makes sense to me

If your good at DIY just pikey it and save some dollars, or make a custom one with silicone & steel tube to match your top boost pipe. Im currently in the process of making my own, £90 for a piece of plastic made in vietnam, nah your all right!

On the other hand, spend £90 on a seat jobby and get back £70-80. So its not so bad, but i'll moan about it anyway :D

Heres a few pics for inspiration

Remember. Diesels have to be mapped to increase fuel. So increasing air flow will make no difference.

Good effort by the way. :)

Yeah, i meant with a remap silly :smirk: I agree, pointless if it aint mapped
