Tried the test with doors and vents closed but I just heard a smashing noise coming from the entire back of the car, not specifically the noise I am describing. However, the vent flaps have already been suspected by another guy (32kofdata's friend) so It could be the case... Other way to test this is take out the rear bumper and try moving the flaps with your hand, only then we would be sure. I am tempted to try this If it is fairly easy...

Car is in today for the scheduled 9K miles service and I mentioned this clunk when I left it. Phoned to see If they're done with the service and If they've discovered anything concerning the clunk. They said yes it was fixed! Something which I didn't understand from the phone, was not tightened up as it should....

I find it hard to believe but let's have faith... I'll report back when I have it and hopefully that could help the other members who have this as well...

Ask them to show you if possible what was "tightened up"

Will do for sure, I'm curious as well... But I tell you, it'll probably be something irrelevant which was only just loosened, they saw it and thought hey that should fix it!

That was the case with my top glovebox rattling mentioned some time ago. A young technician diagnosed that the airbag switch was sitting loose (it did a little but it was not causing the rattle at all) and applied some type of "UHU Patafix" around it. Didn't do anything obviously...

I knew it... they said the spare wheel was loose and tightening it solved the problem... NOT! Anyway i had no time going over it again so it will be another visit when i get the chance... i m a little bored right now...

Back to square one.

UPDATE:

It is now actually solved. I had to leave the car for investigation/experimenting for 4 days which If it didn't coincide with my short vacation I would never have done. The technician working on this, after controlling various parts of the car found that the "clunk" was actually caused by the rear right door's lock hitting the pillar ring (I am not sure if It's called that way). So, he went on and replaced both rear doors rings with the equivalent ones from Ibiza Cupra (!) Nothing else. The strange thing is that this actually cured it as after testing the car on the same roads and ramps that used to produce that clunk I can swear it has now completely disappeared.

Now quite a few things sound strange such as:

1) Why didn't we hear the exact same noise when testing a demo vRS on the same roads? Could be that it wasn't as used as mine so the rings where still in position while mines had loosened up with time or slightly bended from original position? However, the same noise has been identified on other vRS's just in this thread.

2) Are the cupra ones actually from a different material to prevent contact noise as the technician suggested? They seemed just as "metallic" to me as the vRS ones, only darker....

Here is a photo of the part I refer to as "pillar ring" which was entirely replaced. It is not a photo of my car but from the Roomster of another member here (stratosg) but I used it as a reference. As you can see, in his car he has already applied some contact tape on the ring, probably for similar reasons. So, for you that experience the same clunk when going over ramps etc. you could try this solution yourselves first. I am not sure all dealers would accept to fit rings from a Cupra on your vRS

Was just going to say is it could be door stop related. My Estate had a clunk/ ratlle from the back over potholes, sounded like it was a heat shiled or suspension component. However some further investigation revealed it was nothing more serious than the rubber stops on the tailgate hatch. I removed the rubber cap, loosened the allen bolt and pull the stop out one click on both sides. No more noise. If the stops are not tight enough there is movement around the lock which is amplified by the boot.

The way to test for this is to check for play in the rear hatch when closed. Pull up on the lever and you will hear/ see some movement.

Imagine they have 30 seconds tops at the factory to set these up so not surprised if they are not lined up. Have looked at a few since and have noticed inconsistent adjustments on either side.

Hi, not really as far as I know. I think I have yet to hear this noise.

Glad its all solved. Just one point not related to rattles but it was the rubber seal around the hole for those flaps that became twisted on my HTP and my spare wheel well filled with water. Straightened the seal and all was well. Just thought it worth a mention as if anyone works in that area, make sure the seals are seated properly before you put it back together.

this could solve the very same niggling problem i have at the mo since buying my Fabia (2010 HTP)

i'm going to try this out.

thanks very much for getitng involved as much as you did and sharing the info on here!

I have the same issue with the dealership being a good 40min drive away and working all week and have 2 kids, so organising time at the service station would be a right PITA!

so glad i browsed this section today :) love forums like these :) :) :)

will come back to thank you if it solves the problem! :p

After suffering with the same problem and only having the vrs for a few weeks I can confirm that applying some electrical tape around the lock ring has stopped the knocking noise!

I'd also be interested to know what the difference is with the cupra rings and again why it's only on the drivers side?

Newbie69 you got a part number for these lock things , please, or can you say exactly what model cupra it is from. This is not my main problem , I am going to change them anyway. If people are interested it what the cure for my noise is follow my thread , however it hasn't been correctly diagnosed yet !

i had a crack noise from the rear of mine when reversing up my drive or when driving off a kerb any thing that made the body twist it seemed. The dealers had it had and apparently there was a technical bulletin about it and from what a could gather it just involved greasing the and possibly adjusting the rear seat latches.. But since then i have a knock from the OSR which seems like the door latch and the deales also appear to have greased that but it still there it is one thing that annoys me all the tiz's bumps rattles creaks and knocks that come form the interior

i can too vouch that the electrical tape wopund round the rear drivers side door latch works. i wound it round about 10 times. problem solved! heaven!

Have any of you checked to see if your boot catch is shiny and for signs of wear? Common on all cars over a certain age plastic wears out then metal to metal, short piece of insulation tape wrap it around pin on boot floor, problem sorted lasts about a year. Simplss.

+1

I've done the same on the boot and both rear doors and it's never made a sound since, simples.

The dealer said they couldn't hear it when it went in for the pull and new tyres so they never bothered looking.

The difference a bit of black electrician's tape has made, great stuff.
