Is 205/45/17 option of tyre for Fabia?

Featured Replies

Just seen some good wheels fit Fabia fitments on web 5x100, ET 38, 17X7J but they are 205/45/17 Toyo Proxes 4 tyres. Just want to know it's safe to have them on Fabia? Looking forward for opinions.

Thanks

David

NO. simples. :) 45 is too high a profile for that size of rim. 40 is the highest you can go really.

Now I always thought that the profile rating (45) was a percentage of the width (205)..

By that logic they would be exactly the same rolling diameter as standard tyres, irrespective of Rim size.

But looking at a tyre calculator, I'm wrong!

I ran 45 profiles on my fabia and they were fine, but they did look a bit big. I would wait and get 40's :)

i have 205/45/17 on my vrs and have had no issues at all, no scrubbing etc

It is, the profile is the same size, but the rim is one inch bigger..lol

and a speedo that under reads by around 4%, which is something to take into account in speed camera areas. 70 on your speedo will really be around 75 and at 80 the difference is even greater.

Apart from all the points above they look ridiculous

The Aspect ratio or tyre profile is the ratio of a tyre's width to it's height.

Profile % = Section Hight / Section width then multiply by 100

Basically, if you fit larger the rim or wider tyre, you need a lower profile to get the same overall diameter. So for 17 inch wheels you need 205/40 17 tyres.

215/45/17, Cheapo tyres that I have at the min, They do look a little oversized but it dont bother me. Ill see what the price dif is with 40's when I need new ones. I have noticed tho that it really depends on the make of tyre as the lady that park next to me at work have 45's on her 17's and they are alot thinner walls than mine.

Thanks guys, it looks like I'm buying the wheels anyway. Will try them on car and see if any issues will change them for 205/40/17. Thanks
