Blackvue Drive Recorders - NOW CLOSED!

Featured Replies

Yes any ignition powered supply would be fine there will I imagine be a few to choose from.

Although my OE 12v powered socket is 25amp, the fuse going to the Blackvue socket is only 3amp, so anything 3amp or above will be fine

It's the 1st time I've used one of the fuse taps TBH as I normally slice into the correct wire, but this is not quite as simple with CANBUS, so I thought I would give them a try, I did however cut the crimp off and spliced the wires together, soldered them and then put some heat wrap over the joint - some habits are hard to kick :giggle:

I was at work when they tried to deliver mine. Will have to pick it up from depot tomorrow.

Both mine have arrived, thanks again Richard. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Roger

I've put the SD card in my unit and plugged it into the cig lighter socket as instructed on the little slip of paper that came with it.

The ring light around the end of the camera cycles through a few colours, but after 10 seconds or so I hear an audio message saying please check the SD card.

I'm confident Ive inserted it the right way round. Possible faulty card or has anyone got other ideas? Am I OK to try to format it in the SD card slot on my laptop as a way to check the card?

Andy, personally I wouldn't, I read somewhere today (instructions??) that they do not like to be formatted like normal SD cards??

The card will only go in one way and it should sit flush with the body (the contacts were closest to the edge).

Try removing the card and using an eraser on the contacts and try again.

Thanks - the card definitely is in flush and clicks into position. It then pushes down and springs out to remove, so I'm confident its in right.

I've tried the eraser trick and that didnt work.

Any other ideas?

Another SD card?

Sorry doesn't help does it.:giggle:

I have heard of people using aftershave (alcohol) on contacts to clean them but never tried it myself.

Have you tried putting into your computer to see if it recognises it or even try to drag and drop anything onto the card?

Thats when it asks if I want to format the card - so I clicked cancel.

Looks like I'll have to give them a call tmrw

If you go onto the blackvue site (it's listed in the instructions) you can get updated firmware if one is available and they also have a rather handy Micro SD card formatter.

I've had one or two minor issues, but they have always been fixed by using that program to reformat the card.

Ideally, you need to do it every month or so anyway because after so much rewriting you can get glitches.

Yes, I've had the same message before. It was fixed by formatting.

But with an SD card there is always the chance of a defective one.

Thank you sir - tried the formatter and it seems to have sorted things. Much appreciated.

Right, they should have all been delivered now.

If anyone has not recieved theirs please let me know so I can chase up the courier.

Thanks,

Richard.

PS. They are good for "spotted" posts too. :)

Picked mine up last friday from the couriers depot. Haven't fitted it yet though as the mounts for the 300 and 400 are slightly different.

One thing, should I have received a receipt or proof of warranty?

No, TTW here: http://www.blackvuehd.co.uk/information.php

Have logged all your names and the serial numbers of the unit you bought for warranty purposes.

This is why they were sent direct from the supplier and not by me.

Looking forward to getting mine in. Was a bit confused by the thing about powering the unit for 5 minutes to allow it to format the memory card and install software. Seems I can only do that in the car as power is cig lighter only?

Yes, 12V only.

Missed out on this but got one from Fleabay for 150 quid.

in parking mode is it supposed to sit there and record hours and hours of nothing or is it supposed to only kick in when it detects movement in the car (eg a bump)?

If the latter then what settings are used to achieve this?

You can switch parking mode on and off and adjust the sensitivity using the program on a PC.

Which UK supplier?

Suspect not UK. :D There are quite a few from the Far East but I wouldn't trust them due to distance and not being "much" cheaper than the UK.

So would less sensitive mean less time recorded? Have got auto parking mode and turned sensitivity down but got a full night of dark recorded last night. Kept top of windscreen ice free though.

Did it actually turn off at all? - i.e is it wired up to be live all the time by accident?

  • Author

No, less sensitive means less chance of it coming on.

I think there is a separate setting for the length of recording when parking mode is tripped, but I don't have one in front of me right now.

Sounds like you need to make sure parking mode is enabled, then play with the settings and see how it goes.

May be worth seeing if there is a firmware update for it too on the site that's listed in the instructions.

(Same place the Micro SD formatter comes from)

Oh its in parking mode all right. The p logo shows the clips are in parking mode. When I said less recorded I meant less chance of it coming on and therefore less recorded. Some experimentation required I think.

What was the GB price on these, out of interest?

It was £195 delivered for the 400 (HD) model with 16GB memory card and mount. A bit less for the non HD version.

I got one in the GB - we'll have to meet up sometime if you want a look at it.
