Many people now use Snow Foam as part of their wash regime

BUT what is the best technique in its application?

I always rinse first and then apply the foam afterwards as I believe it helps to remove more dirt before I get the buckets out

What do you do?

I tend to go straight onto the snowfoam. When I've rinsed the car first, the snowfoam tends to slide straight off. Seems to defeat the point!

Yes always pre rinse, get what you can off to start with.

Give the snow foam more chance to work, if car is treated correctly very little water should remain on the car after a rinse anyhow so shouldn't effect foam.

Straight with the Snow Foam, as has been said, pre rinse defeats the object, especially if you are pressure washing as the pressure of the jets could 'drag' dirt across the body. SF'ing first eliminates this by 'floating' the dirt off the car leaving you safe to jet the foam off once it has worked.

straight on with the foam. I find that if I rinse before hand and then spray the foam on it will be gone in about 5 mins. But if I spray it straight on it will cling for around 20 mins giving better cleaning performance

20mins! Firstly, what foam are you using, and secondly, what are you doing in the 20mins that the foam is 'dwelling'?! I have nearly finished the car in 20mins :giggle:

Have got the 2 cars down to under an hour now for just washing now they both have their winter coats of colly on and mine had the 16inch Elegance wheels on (nice easy 5 spokes!). That includes cleaning all the door shuts, bonnet and boot and also the glass on the inside....and tyre gel if i am feeling particularly generous

Lol I'm using autobrite magifoam. Seems to stay on the car a lot longer than most foams although it is then a pita to remove from the driveway, and is normally still around the day after. I use the time to clean badges, grills, arches and other places that are hard to get at with the mitt and then get the rest of the gear ready.

Perhaps you are using it too concentrated? Something like this:

does look impressive though

ps you haven't voted ;)

I know. Will do in the morning as I'm browsing the site on the mobile. I use about 1" of snowfoam in the bottle and then topped up with water. It comes out like a slightly weaker shaving foam

Rinse first, snow foam will never remove heavily soiled motors on it's own I am afraid........

I don't think you can define either as the best technique, this will be entirely down to end user preference...........

Rinse - yes, Blast - no. Rinsing removes loose dirt and softens hard dirt.

Snow foam binds much better to moist dirt.

Does anyone use warm water to foam???

As stated above, this is all down to personal preference........

Warm water can be used, depending on what LSP you have on the car this will degrade it over time...... :|

Thanks

Jeez my foam is nowhere near as thick as above. I rinse, then foam, then wash, however my foam doesnt actually appear to do much. I guess it does soften the grime. :wonder:

  • 2 weeks later...

Gave up using snow foam, as it wasn't worthwhile for me.

Now rinse, and wash with dodo juice born to be mild with 2BM. Works well for me, but this is for my own cars.

Cheers

Steve
