Problem with Bin of Newz

Featured Replies

Sky has started blocking the Bin of Newz. Anyone else use this site? I need to know how to get round the blockage.

Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?....

The Court approved blocking of the site has been on the news pages of most tech sites and the sites own news page for months. They were offering a software get-around, but the only place I know of that you can download it from is the website, so if you are already blocked......... Perhaps another user will take pity and point you at a suitable torrent.

Use NZBmatrix instead

It's better and a 7 quids one off payment,

Been using it a year meself

GG no torrents here dude, NZB's are the way to go, full speed all the time

I have to say I've never used newzbin - Either binsearch or Merlins Portal :)

So giving your identity and bank details to a website, who will have to give them to the police and RIAA when they get busted is a sensible idea?

You don't give any bank details to binsearch sunshine it's free as is nzbmatrix, don't want to get into the technicalities of torrents vs usenet as this isn't really the place for this. However in response to the OP's question as to accessing blocked sites in general have a look at using a VPN.

No worse than torrents or other P2P using your own IP adress. My usage is nothing compared to the bigger fish anyway, I'm sure the bloke flogging them down the pub is higher up the list than me.

You can mask your IP address, but your ISP will always know what you connected to and real IP. A court order and they'll hand it over quite willingly if asked for everyone who connected to x.x.x.x.

It's how the majority of downloaders are caught.

My bad, I thought newzbin was a pay-to-use site.

But as mentioned before, the site launched a software package to circumvent the BT blockage, they said at the time it would work with blocks by other ISPs as well, you just need to find someone who has it, and is willing to upload it to a website you CAN access.

What juristiction does the RIAA have in the UK anyway? They're a US based body.

I would have thought you'd have gone to the next step and downloaded a missus, GG ;)

They have enough influence in New Zealand that the government rushed a new law through to enable the movie companies to report people and get them fined up to $15,000, or after 3 strikes, banned from having an internet connection for 6 months!

Can't believe it happened - NZ passing a law to protect US movie company profits. Well from what they reported it seems they are punishing individuals for downloading things like Rihanna videos.

Then they stopped reporting any details :)

They have "front" organisations in many countries, either entirely run by them, or benefiting from large "donations"; I forget the name of the UK based org.

As for downloading the wife, she is extremely hi-rez, and with the dire internet speeds here in China it was faster to come and fetch her.

We will be back in the UK on New Years Eve, so my ISP better be ready for me blitzing my fast internet account all through January, to make up for the sad, pathetic speeds I get here in China; not to mention the lag and site filtering caused by the GFWoC.

( BBC News wont even THINK about loading until 15 seconds after I click on the bookmark, and then it takes about another 30 seconds to either load, server reset, or timeout).

Not heard of Lord of the Rings? It was quite successful at box office, and very good for the NZ economy! I'm sure NZ are just playing the bitch because they want more of Holywood's cash!

+100000

The nzbmatrix APIs are very handy for plugging into other bits of software.. sickbeard/couchpotato etc

It's not so much the pathetic speeds in china as the deep packet inspection the chinese gov apply to all internet traffic and their magic firewall all net traffic must pass through causes traffic to slowdown while its processed. You can get around this by using a VPN again.

and as GG lives in Malvern when he is in the UK, I am pretty sure they are putting FTTC at the moment so he could easily run a VPN service from Malvern and connect to it from China.

One of my mates is in Germany at the moment and uses my VPN connection to kick off iPlayer viewing.

The problem is, you have to set the vpn up BEFORE you get out here, the Chinese government have cottoned on, and block all of the vpn services I have tried to set up.. The GFWoCs also very variable, when news is good, it doesnt interfere much; but when there is unrest, or a local disaster, it clamps down and everything goes like cold treacle. And actually, the speeds arent good anyway, I am on a shared 2Mb connection; although to be fair, it is a very stable 2Mb most of the time.

Definitely.

They changed the law and basically bribed Hollywood to make sure The Hobbit movies were made here.

Used newzbin before it got busted(year or two ago?), now use nzbmatrix.

Cheers for the replies everyone. I've got 60-odd days credit left on Newzbin so I'd like to try and use it up.

I DL'd a free VPN (cheers Waplord) and it broke through to the site. Having difficulty getting the NBclient though, it seems to have been removed, or extra blocked somehow.

I'm using up my credit, then swapping to NZBmatrix. Thanks to Dave and the +1's for the recommendation.

You actually wouldn't even need to do that.

Go and get yourself a VPS, (e.g. http://vps.net), install a fresh distro of Linux, e.g. Debian/Ubuntu, sudo apt-get install squid... do some basic configuration and you're good to go.

Did this myself when I was in Uni halls because they decided to throttle anything like iPlayer, YouTube, XBL, Steam or PSN to 64kbps... very annoying. Setting up a squid proxy to listen on a standard port soon fixed that.
