Bought some Osram nightbreakers a few months ago and weren't that impressed, so bought some Philips extreme vision.

Took pics with osram's first then Philips extreme second.

I used my phone camera for the pics on the same setting (Flash off).

The Philips extreme are road legal and I haven't been flashed even though they're bloody bright. The light stretches much further down the road than the osram's.

J13 me X... They are super bright!!

ok cheers, are they h4? where did you buy them from? think ill treat myself! cheers

H7. Ebay £23.

H7. Ebay £23.

£23 is on the expensive side. I have them and only cost me a tenner from the car shop near town. They're decent though! Got the side lights done too.

^ really for the Phillips extreme? that's the cheapest on ebay...

what side lights did you get? also what main beam are people running?

cheers

Good deal!!

They're £46 on auto bulbs direct.

£23 cheapest on ebay for the xtreme's. PHILIPS vision are cheaper.

Also h4 are a lot cheaper than h7's ??

they really wasnt as bright as they look! they look crazy blue in that picture! ha

I've not tried Nightbreakers or Extreme yet, not had much need to.

When I got my vRS, I had some Halfords updated bulbs in my drawer at work ( got a couple of Fabias on fleet and one was my daily hack for a year) so popped those in.

They're actually very good, and pretty good value too - buy one get one free at £23 each isn't that bad is it?

Nice and bright, not too blue, lasted me almost a year. All good.

^^^ now they are supposed to be super bright. Currently leading the way at 120%.

Yikes. The Halfords ones I've got are +100%

Have to wonder if it's all just a numbers game/marketing gimmick by the manufacturers. You'll note they do say "up to" and compare with the crappest possible quality standard bulb.

Probably.

PHILIPS extreme are 100% and osram nightbreakers are 80% and the 2 pics I posted shows the difference.

I'll give it another year and someone will bring out 200% !!

Bulbs filled with nuclear fusion.

I have Osram cool blue halogen 21d sidelight bulbs and they're impressively bright and white looking without a blue tint on the bulb itself. Having searched ebay etc recently to see if I can find any more, it looks like they're difficult to get hold of.

On the left (as you view the pic) is a Halfords laser blue sidelight bulb, the right is the Osram 21d

These are probably the closest equivalent http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/501-W5W-Osram-Halogen-Cool-Blue-Intense-Sidelight-Bulbs.html cheaper here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320812033208&fromMakeTrack=true

I have just fitted Osram nightbreaker PLUS, to replace the blown Philips extreme vision.

I'd say that bulbs loose their brightness over time, because I found that the nightbreaker plus' were much brighter than the 12-18month old existing Philips Extreme visions that came out..

Anyway, I think both Nightbreakers and Extreme vision are great bulbs. The nightbreakers won the latest Autoexpress bulb test for what it's worth

Professionally I was always taught that bulbs were planted ( as in Daffodil /Crocus etc) and lamps lit . :wonder:

Anyway ,that over ,few years ago I had one dip lamp fail ,and spotted some "extra bright " of a well known brand (can't remembre name) and at that time doing lots of miles on motorways etc and a lot of it at night - so splashed out . The lamps lasted a few months and I couldn't really notice any extra benefit .So back to cheapos . three years on an I've just had to replace one from a pack I bought cheap at local petrol station .Something else I've noticed - turn the adjustment down on the leveling switch and you can run on full beams without being annoying .

bulbs grow, lamps glow

Something else I've noticed - turn the adjustment down on the leveling switch and you can run on full beams without being annoying .

I think this would still be really annoying. Especially if you have installed updated headlmap filament bulbs (!).

I think this would still be really annoying. Especially if you have installed updated headlmap filament bulbs (!).

But not on NORMAL BOG STANDARD LAMPS ( I don't plant bulbs in my headlamps -I let missus plant them in garden  ).

Keep up  there
