Weird Headlight Fault vRS

Featured Replies

Hey guys - got a weird headlight fault which is confusing my dealer too - its odd, every now and then the headlights will continue to adjust up and down as I drive or sit in traffic. This only happens when the adjuster switch is set on the - line (0 in some cars)

See below for example...

- only happens on this setting!

Dealer did a scan and few bits and no faults thrown up, this was last week - then today it did it again so drove in with it doing it and still no faults found :wonder:

Any ideas?

They're going to contact Skoda as they can't replace anything without permission or the machine telling them to do so.

Ad Lav is this a slight nodding under power or a complete travel then it starts dropping unpowered then powers back up then falls once the motor stops?

Not a dirrect comparison as its bassed on other limited travers motors. It appears to be failing to either recieve the end stop signal or its failing to lock the motor out.

hope you get it fixed

It nods up slightly and then down to where its supposed to be if that makes sense?

ie - turn car on, turn lights on, they level - all is fine. Then they'll adjust up a smidge and then back to normal position and keep doing it lol

Thinking switch related but no idea really.

Could it be down to a dodgey connection in the switch?

I had the exact same problem with my 2011(61) Monte Carlo, obviously you could not hear or see the fault whilst driving due to the noise and car movement, but when stationary you could hear and see the motor buzz, buzz, buzz, making slight adjustments to the headlight aim as if i was playing with the adjuster and it only ever happened when on zero, in the end i took it just off zero and it was OK (I was waiting until i had to go to the dealers to report this fault) but then i traded the Monte Carlo for a vRS and this car is fine, i would get the dealer to change the whole light adjuster unit (the part where you adjust the headlight aim) as i reckon it is that unit.

If both are doing it I would be inclined to think its the switch.

Both are doing it - will point them in the direction of the switch.

Thanks for your input guys :)

Booked in next week for 3 days!! to find the fault, replicate it and find out what Skoda will replace... got a 1.2 as a hire car apparently, may see if I can get something faster lol

Ha! Not the only one! I'll update you next week with what they do! A scan while it playing up is showing no faults hence why Skoda need to be careful what they replace... new headlights or a switch has been mentioned.

Car in today until wednesday - they've not had much luck getting it to replicate the fault as of yet but they think its the switch :)

Been given a 2011 1.4T Octavia Elegance Hatch as a courtesy car so not all bad - does have a wood dash though :(

I'd be inclined to say its the switch, keen to find out what sorts this out (probably not as much as you :p)

Replacing the switch and all associated gubbins. Part in tomorrow so got the coctavia for another day

This thing doesn't promote safe handling, slightly barge like... :bandit:

Switch replaced, can't comment on if it's worked as not put the headlights on - far too sunny and I have my shades on lol

Glad to be back in the vRS too, I can go round corners level now

What garage are you going to?

I'll let my garage know i'm not the only one maybe they can help Skoda suss it out!

Hey,

Just commeneted on another post where you've mentioned this. I've witnessed the same thing! Highly annoying if you stop and you can hear the lights going crazy. Mine seems to do it all the time when it's set at ' - ' (0).

My car's going in for a 20k service (I've done crazy miles since new :( ) I'm going to get the garage to look at a couple of things, this included!

Might be a common fault that some don't notice!

It is only on the (-) setting also known as (0) in some cars.

Will mention to them its not just mine!

Goes in monday 12th for a week - if anyone else is having this problem post here!

Anyone gets a cure, posts here :D

Turners of erlestoke, really small garage ! Hopefully they'll sort both the problems ? !

Cool, let me know if you have any luck!

Well, mine has been so intermittent that the dealer can't scan/read the voltage going into whatever as it does it one second and not the next :(

Anyone else had any joy?

They didn't look at mine ! The oil consumption took priority ! Will be looked at once I've covered the 600 miles and they've got the car back !

Mine happens pretty frequently.

Mine does the same thing every now and then in my monte. To be honest, it doesn't seem to be much of a problem for me (yet) as it happens only like once or twice every month or so.

But, what I do to fix the problem is just to set the adjuster right down to 3 and then back up to 0. Then it stops moving.
