Engine "hot"start fails

Featured Replies

Hi all,

lately my Skoda Fabia 1 1.4 16v 2003 has been giving me trouble when I try to start it when the engine is already hot. It works fine when I start it in the morning to go to work and also when I start it in the afternoon to go back home. Quite often though, when it's been running and I turn it off for 15 minutes to 2 hours (more or less), it won't start. The starter turns, but the engine doesn't start. After about 5 minutes of trying (and a lot of gasoline smell), it will start. I have VCDS lite, but I cleared the errors I had to get a new reading and it hasn't brought up the same errors yet. I will post them once I have them. I remember some error referring to "oxygen" or "oxygen sensor", but I don't remember what it said quite well.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help

Same answer as given on other posting - if coolant sensor is u/s then it could be giving too rich a mixture at hot restart.

If replacing the coolant temperature sensor doesn't help then change the EGR valve. I had this problem and it was due to incorrect EGR flow.
