Talk to me about ... Exhausts

Featured Replies

Yea its a bit of a weird on and have seen one site where the mounting flange has to be slightly cut to fit. This guy on the Golf forum listed above has a 2012 Golf Gti TSI and his findings below:

To quote "FSI is the same downpipe, only difference is the MkV Golf only came CCTA whereas some MkVI come CBFA. In other words, this downpipe only has 2 O2 sensor holes. I have heard it might require some slotting of the flange holes, but just to let everyone know, I had no troubles whatsoever with fitting and aligning the downpipe. It bolted right up, and I can't find any signs of leaks. It is loud and raspy on cold start-up, but once warmed up it sounds same as stock. When you get on it, the car has a sort of growl to it with a slight rasp."

Be good to see some engine codes from our vrs (pre and FL)? Sure mine is CBZA or something (on the sticker inside the boot) when i checked it, but cant check again till later.

Go on someone have a quick look :) you know u want too :)

Pipeworx is Ian birch's latest incarnation (formerly dub speed) he also worked for blue flame (who I think have gone bust?)

Ian is spot on and a great fabricator - one of the first fabricators to do a full 3 inch turbo back on integrales (my car way back when). Do a search on YouTube and I'm sure you will see various twin engined vw's he's made (he's a bit bonkers)

Mine is/was a Pipewerx - lovely quality and a decent price. I seem to remember they will give you a small discount over the phone too, nothing huge but worth a phonecall.

And power wise, noise wise these pipewerx and as good as the miltek? I didn't get the sales advise I was promised from Charlie at miltek so out of principle don't want to go with them so pipewerx would be an option for me.

Is that; ARE as good as or AIN'T as good as ???

'Are' sorry. Stupid iPhone thinks its clever.

Right then Nicky Boy, Pipeworx/erx is the way to go then. Lodsa squids cheeper than Miltek.

Anybody disagree?

I think so too although I have e-mailed Pipewerx to double check that their down pipe will connect to the standard OEM cat back section.

Now that's sorted - Evoms or ITG?

I'd be very interested to see what they say. I'm going to upgrade car next year but until then I'd like more power.

I have to say that I couldn't fault the milltek (other than the price). Thoroughly impressed with the customer service as well when I switched from non-res to res. Love my ITG to, although I did get it for free.

Okay chaps, wos ITG ,,,,, maybe I've been away to long!

Xquse me peeps, how in 'ell' does ITG equate to air filter/cold air intake?

Okay, bin down that route, not really worth the dosh!

Max layout, minimal gains, except if you need "bling".

Agree - nothing to be gained

I think you will find plenty of threads on here stating that intakes make a pretty decent improvement to bhp - 15 ish, when coupled with remap/exhaust etc. lots of before and after rolling road graphs.

Sorry to be a bit late on this one, but when I had my Golf G60 I went for a custom built Longlife exhaust, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I wanted something a bit special again!

I'll go a little bit into why I thought it was the b0llocks:

1st. They offer a TRANSFERRABLE lifetime warranty, and you don't have to have any of that check-up nonsense... mine had a buzzing in it after about 2 years and they just put it up on the ramp, took the middle box off and welded in a new section, no questions! (G60's run at a ridiculously high temperature through the exhaust and it had turned the fibre glass in the box into balls so they put a different material in for the new one: problem solved! Also the reason why I went with them cos no-one else would honour their 'lifetime' warranty due to the known heat build up)

2nd. Was stupidly cheap and the guys at the two places I went to were really friendly.

3rd. Ask you a lot of questions about what you ACTUALLY want, and then bespoke build it from their tubing, boxes and tailpipes: when I took it back to get the above problem sorted, I actually asked if I could change the tailpipes and got a custom made set made out of various tubes they had in stock at no extra cost, no problems.

4th. Unlike a load of other 'lifetime warranty' exhaust companies who I probed into before making my choice, these guys use the proper T304 grade stainless steel, so it doesn't rust.

Only trouble is if you live miles from a fitting centre, but basically you buy one exhaust system and you'll never have to pay for another part of it or labour again!!

Just had a look on their website, and a standard Octy system from the cat back is £279, but i'd check this. Told you it was cheap though! lol

Hope this helps. (Honestly, I don't work for them; I just found them a brilliant company to use for what was a tricky model exhaust in my G60!) :0)

Agreed - Longlife put the swappable de-cat section into my Pipewerx downpipe, it was a work of art.

Agreed on Longlife being excellent in my experience. I had a Mitsubishi Colt Cyborg years ago and the Longlife exhaust was outstanding in all aspects on it (fit, finish, sound and performance). Wonder how much they would be to knock a downpipe up! A little digging me thinks :)

Can someone who has access to their vrs now have a glance at the engine code (on sticker under the boot carpet) please as bugging me now what the codes are on the pre and FL models (petrols) as i will do some digging into the downpipe fitments on the FSI and TSI.

I'll start.
