Talk to me about ... Exhausts

Featured Replies

My FL Vrs has a shark stage 1 remap on it at the moment but I'm planning on going to stage 2 shortly. Now I realise I will need an aftermarket exhaust for this but what are the most cost effective options?

I'm sure a full milltek system with sports cat would be best but at £1200+ it's not cheap! A cat back system will do the job but I believe won't bring any extra power gain in itself. Also any suggestions for a cold air intake? Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks.

I think you should get away with just a 200 cell down pipe from the likes of pipewerx or miltek, and run the standard cat back.I am led to believe the biggest gains are from the change of down pipe.

Woh ,,,, have you tried this, seen this, had experance of this ???

Where did you get this info?

He's correct, cat back for noise only. Have a look at the ITG intakes as well as the evoms.

The only turbo back system that I can find for the tsi is Milltek, are there any others - Jetex, Piper?

Yeh i had this on my pre fl model , i had a pipewerx down pipe with standard cat back on stage 2 shark map and it was spot on.It should be no different for the fl models.

The only required mod for stage 2 is the downpipe. So around £500

Cat back will only give you noise.

Intake wise you won't go far wrong with either the ITG Maxagon, twintake or evoms

Don't forget the downpipe from the TFSI will *not* fit the TSI emoticon-0148-yes.gif

The noisy, useless but still fun cat back bit will.

Thanks everyone, can anybody recommend a down pipe that will fit the standard cat on a tsi?

Have you checked Shark's offers for performance packs, includes remap, exhaust and intake....?

Just to clear up, when you fit a new downpipe it includes a CAT - for a performance downpipe, you'd get a sports cat which is less restrictive than the OEM one.

The term 'Cat Back' means just that - from the cat section (i.e. *after* the cat) to the tailpipes.

Thanks Timmy, I ought to have said cat back section rather than just cat. So Pipewerx is no good for me with a tsi then?

I have a 1.8TSi so shouldn't be much difference to your vRS and Pipewerx did my full sport exhaust custom made in front of me due to routing and 4x4 propshaft, but VRS exhaust were a plenty and ready made due to being sold so often. 3" downpipe than 2,75" all the the way to the back/

Wow, that's a lot cheaper! Wonder why though.

Wow, that's a lot cheaper! Wonder why though.

Probaly due to the postage costs, unless any body is around that area.

Anyone know the diameter of the standard system?

If it's 2.75" is there a reducer to fit the 3" Downpipe with Cat system to the rest of the OEM stuff?

Anyone got an idea if these pipewerx are any good?

There is also blueflameperformance.

(Web site seems to be playing up at this moment).

I'd like to know people's opinions on the different exhaust companies as miltek prices seem very high. I'm tempted to go for an exhaust upgrade.

I had a pipewerx down pipe on my pre fl vrs and it fitted no bother, gave good gains over standard one it seemed to pull better and spool up quicker and also gave a nicer sound.

Was that the downpipe & cat assembly fitted to the OEM rear section?

Was that the downpipe & cat assembly fitted to the OEM rear section?

Yes as the pipewerx has a built in reducer so it will fit the standard cat back.

Ive read a few things about this (mainly golf mk5 and mk6 forums as very little else about) and seems that the downpipe will fit the FSI and most TSI engines.

Have a glance at these links, i know they are about the cheap ebay downpipes but describes fitments.

Hmmmm - my investigation only went as far as checking one of Ben's (Mr. Shark) customers who had a TSI motor - he had got hold of a TFSI downpipe and Ben mentioned that it wouldn't fit. I also checked with Miltec and they listed 2 different part numbers - but who knows!

I wish you fellas were around a couple of months ago when I couldn't seem to give away my full turbo back system

The Milltek down pipe is certainly different between the two different models.
