Tyre pressures ( Winter tyres )

Featured Replies

Tried a search but found nothing

Tyre pressures for a 205/55/16 Winter tyres on an Octavia PD Vrs (07) please.

I've set them at 32 Psi all round, " Does that sound about right? "

Thanks

It's a tiny bit low.

I have just checked my fuel flap and the PD170 on a 205/55/16 should be 2.2 bar all round under normal load.

Handbook recommends adding 0.2 bar for winter tyres.

By my reckoning that is 2.4 bar = 34psi

Under full load this goes up to

front 2.5+0.2=2.7 bar =39psi

rear 3.1+0.2=3.3 bar =48psi

I would worry about 48psi though - it seems rather high!

According to my handbook winter tyres should be +0.2 bar above what summer tyres should be (1 bar = 14.5 psi therefore 0.2 bar = approx 3 psi), so find the pressures for your 205/55R16 tyres, select the appropriate pressure for the load you have (from driver only to fully-loaded) and add 3 psi.

32 psi sounds a little low to me but sure you'll have the correct figures somewhere.

EDIT: Beaten to it :)

Each to their own I think.

I run mine the same as my summer tyres and have never had a problem and they wear very evenly and grip as they should.

I do around 1000 miles a week of mixed Motorway and fast A and B roads.

I take it you are running the same size tyres in winter as you do in summer?

The OP has a VRS so will have 17 or 18" rims so is unlikely to have the sticker under the fuel flap showing the tyre pressures for 16" tyres, the same as my sticker doesn't show the pressures for 18".

I know what you mean about the additional 0.2 bar though - I don't know why they recommend that, but seeing as they do I go with it and the grip and wear are also fine. I wore my fronts slightly more in the centre last winter by running them about 0.4 bar up on the summer pressures, so have gone with the recommended 0.2 bar increase this winter and they seem fine.

She normally runs on 225/40/18 in the summer but she has her winter shoes on 205/55/16 Kleber <<

I'll try 34 all round as keep an eye on them

Hi

I have had the winter tyres on a couple of times now and find that 38psi front and 32psi rear is fine.

If the fronts are much lower they look like they are soft.

Cheers

Dave
