My electric boot release stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi all yesterday I went shopping with the mrs packed the car up and everything was fine. When i got home the boot would open from the outside but opens from the leaver by the drivers door. I've checked the fuse and made sure no plugs have come out and it still won't open. Any ideas would great. The car is a 2000 reg 1.4 16v mpi

Guessing faulty pressure switch, mine plays up as well, could try pressing it in different places, this helps with mine

cheers just been out to the car cos i hadnt seen it checked again & i do not have a boot release very strange..ive only got a petrol cap release button thats it.........

any idea why i dont have one its a 2004 vRS

Could be because mine is a comfort model not a vrs

my boot also won't open!... also i don't have a boot release button in the cab

Yeah the vRS in the UK doesn't have the boot release inside. Only on the key and on the boot lid itself.

The button on my boot had stopped working, but would still open from the key, so I knew it wasn't the release mechanism, just the button.

Stripped down the boot last week to find the one of the cables on the microswitch has come off. Re soldered it and it's good as new.

This is what it looked like:

Cool I'll have a look tomorrow

  • 3 months later...

Had a look at mine the other day. I've ruled out the mechanism, and the touch button, but after looking at the wiring I have noticed that "for your convenience" even this system runs via the ECU under the steering wheel. I think that is where my fault is going to be. So for now I'm going to try to live with it cause its a pain in the proverbial's to get to.

All the wiring looks good, so really cant see what else it would be.
