Felicia rough idle

Featured Replies

Hi,

Noticed it yesterday after a sprint up the A2070 and since it hasnt stopped.

Mostly noticeable when in a queue and my trouser leg shakes :D or pulling away in first.

I did search what I could and I've read to check the intake gasket, throttle body etc. Does anyone else know of any reasons to why this would start happening and what to check.

Thanks,

Lee.

which engine?

Oh my bad... forgot to add that, MPi

it's always worth giving the throttle body a clean, and checking the valve clearances as a starting point..

Ok, I will recheck the TB but it was last cleaned just over 6 months ago... could that really be an issue so soon?

Thanks,

Lee.

Yeah they do dirty up pretty quick especially if you rarely bother to change your oil.

Well had a look at the inlet gasket and it has indeed failed in 2 places.

Have a new one on order from Skoda for a whole £2.45! Hopefully that is the only issue causing it :)

Well Skoda only ordered me 1 part of what I needed even though I double checked with the Parts guy what I was ordering.

Went to SC and they ordered a different part that includes the exhaust ones too. That has now fixed the leak there.

This however hasn't fixed the rough idle.

Other attempts to fix the rougle idle are;

  • New Spark plugs
  • Cleaned throttle body
  • Valve clearances

This still hasn't fixed the issue.

I am now stumped on what else that would cause this sort of problem all of a sudden.

Coolant temperature sender?

Vacuum leak?

:) Start off by going right back to basics and do a compression test.

Thanks for your suggestions...

Got a fault code reader and the following errors have come up;

Address 01: Engine

00518: Throttle Position Sensor

31-10: Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent

00519: Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor

31-10: Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent

Address 15: Airbags

00532: Supply Voltage B+

07-10: Signal too low - Intermittent

Guess that's where to start! :D

sounds like the throttle valve body needs the basic setings re-setting

Going on your fault codes I would suggest checking all the earth points are nice and clean, and check their general condition and security. There's a lug on the passenger side suspension turret that has a ring terminal on which sometimes works a little loose, iirc this is where the main engine harness is grounded to the chassis, plus there is another one on top of the engine near the throttle body, I can't remember exactly where it is on the 1300 engines but this is the most likely one to be causing you problems... Also Check the earthing straps to and from the engine/body/battery too, give them a good rough up with some 80 grit paper to get them good and clean.

I don't think those are the problem as I cleared the faults and they haven't appeared since.

However... I'm getting a lot of clutch slip now so I'd say it is kaput and needs changing. £60 for a new one :) if its unbalanced it could cause unnecessary shaking :D
